    1. A bit from the commentary:

      > Win or lose, Talarico — a seminary student-turned-politician — embodies an existential threat to the right’s long-standing myth that to be Christian must necessarily mean voting Republican.
      >
      > “As a young evangelical we were taught repeatedly and clearly: It is not possible to be a Christian and a Democrat,” Brad Onishi, a research associate at the University of California, Berkeley and co-host of the “Straight White American Jesus” podcast, told me. “But candidates like Talarico are changing that. His theological acumen and keen ability to use the language of the New Testament to disarm bad-faith religious attacks is showing a new way forward.”

Before I even heard of Talarico, it was pretty common to hear things like, *If the GOP ever lost Texas, it would be the end of the GOP.*

Mamdani is doing damage. Al-sayed will do damage. Talarico will do damage. Plenty more to follow.

His campaign is not doing the damage. The GOP is a failed party and that has nothing to do with Talarico. GOP equals, rapists, pedophiles, greed, immorality, anti Constitution, fascism, dictatorial government, debt, no road forward for most Americans.

    5. I am sure his message is freeing for a lot of Christian folk that don’t want to be in a party that protects pedophiles, blatantly lies, suppresses minorities, and constantly cheats.

    6. Democrats have needed to recapture healthy Christianity and patriotism for awhile. Hope this is a step in the right direction.

    7. Fighting “christianity” with Christianity!

And this from a dyed in the wool atheist.

Should have been more of this from the beginning. Needs to be much more of it going forward.

The GOP/MAGA ignorance and bigotry is sufficient in and of itself. The brilliance of Talarico is the carpenter building and nailing shut their coffin. Good riddance! From a former conservative republican.

    9. GOOD! I hope, even if he doesn’t win, they continue losing their minds over the fact he’s a better Christian than they pretend to be.

    10. Don’t think so. The party of rapists and violent psycho rednecks have repeatedly proven standards are only for holding others accountable to

    11. It won’t. The GOP is the party of racists, bigots, greed, corruption; and this country has roots in those ideologies. The GOP will never go away.

Right-Wingers are not real Christians. They’re fake Christians.

They wear it as [a fashion statement](https://www.thedailybeast.com/resizer/v2/YAQRE3D4JREI3LYXW3PKT3NPRY.jpg?smart=true&auth=2ab80671d232965718d75792b6e4cd8f81333a8839883d7f29f49ac2eb5a85e8&width=1600&height=900) in order to feel righteous but it’s all bullshit as they continue to lie and push the most un-Christlike policies imaginable.

“Another round of massive tax cuts for literal Billionaires – just like Jesus would do!”

    13. We wouldn’t have to verbally disarm bad faith religious arguments if we collectively grew a pair and went old testament on anyone telling you you’re going to Hell for, really, anything.

    14. I hope he wins but Dems have an extremely long history of being Christian’s and running on ” Christian values”. This isn’t anything new.

    15. How Christians see anything Republican as ‘Christian’ is beyond me. Bunch of selfish self serving twats that don’t care for others.

    16. Democrats assistance to the masses is more Christian-like, than almost anything Republicans do.
Republicans demonize people, they attack, they take away from the needy, they vote to preserve adult marriage to teens and also back those who committed crimes against youths, and they lie with impunity!
      They are more Satin-like.

    17. Republicans aren’t Christian.

      They’re zealots and evangelicals.

They’re compromised and James Talarico is exposing them
