**Methodology**…
* Bracketed 20 TV ad and promo breaks using sampled playback frames, then classified the gaps as game coverage or halftime. The 3:02:45 charted span contains an estimated **2:01:35 of game coverage**, **51:05 of TV ads and promos**, and **10:05 of halftime**. Game coverage includes time between plays. The sampled review leaves some boundary uncertainty and may miss short spots.
* **Accuracy check: share with caveats.** I recalculated the ledger… its 43 segments cover 3:02:45 without gaps, and the chart matches the recorded totals of **51:05 ads/promos**, **2:01:35 game coverage**, and **10:05 halftime programming**.

3 hours for a football game actually feels like not a lot anymore. I feel like 3:20 is the norm now

If you could somehow build this out for an entire season I think you’d see how bad it really is.
Individual games are barely watchable and I still think they have less ads than the Sunday games.
What are the odds the 8 game slate could all be in commercial at he same time unless the ads run at an incredible frequency.
Sucks.

I watch most NFL games on delay just so I can ffw through commercials. Watching World Cup soccer this summer was weird. Yeah, the ads are right there on the jersey but no game stoppage except the two ~~forced commercial~~ hydration breaks each game was awesome.

I’m watching fewer NFL games for this reason.

Redzone is the superior way to watch football. It’s rough during the prime time games. Fortunately I’m in the west so my team rarely plays in the morning slate, so I can usually watch the first few hours just tracking fantasy relevant stuff

My wife and I started to watch NFL games an hour after they start for this reason. Fast forwarding through commercials is great. We don’t follow any live game threads so doesn’t really matter for us, and by the time we get to the end of the game it’s basically live anyways.

One of the reasons I never got into liking American football.

So I watch every game on espn3 through my iptv provider when I can because of it not showing a single ad

I’m biased because I love the sport, but this doesn’t seem bad to me? It’s no worse than any other TV show with 70% of showtime, 30% of ads.
Plus, if you’re actually digesting the game, the “not in play” moments that a lot of the commenters are pointing out are just as interesting as the rest of the game. They give you the ability to breakdown each play and build a strategy for the next/future plays. Helps add to the mental aspect that a lot of other sports lack in comparison.

Would be interesting to see how much of the game was actually in play as well
The NFL is going to see this and think they should add at least another 30 mins of ads
Would be nice to add ball in play to this data

But soccer is somehow “unwatchable”
