    1. Canada should obviously do this. It’s too bad we have been too focused on torching the relationship with the US for domestic political gain.

    2. As Chretien said a couple of days ago – the US only buys what it needs from us. I don’t see the point of forming a bloc with anyone this unreliable.

    3. Canada should have veto power over the US from purchasing potash from anyone else, make sure that all contracts for potash are in English as well as French, and remove the US tariffs on Canada.

We should because blocking potash would be a great escalation. So if we force Trump team to admit they need potash, we hammer that in every negotiations until he is out of office. You said you didn’t need us but Potash.. and repeat

Do they really need fertilizer though? I mean with the amount of bullshit that comes out of Trump’s mouth.

    6. By ensuring that the US gets what they absolutely need from Canada, the US gets license to strongarm us in all other sectors. We should be trading a takedown of all tariffs against Canada in exchange for not selling our potash supply to Brazil, China, and India instead of the aggressors to the south.

It’s amazing to be that some can’t see the meta of this. He’s teaching dimwits how to understand what’s actually good for them with a simple example.

This is another way to pressure the current administration. The farmers need stability and mid term is coming. Good move.

    9. Nothing wrong with a well placed olive branch that benefits Canada and makes us seem like reasonable/sane negotiators. Take the high road and make trump look bad again.

    10. Just want to say this thread (or whatever it’s called) has been enjoyable to read. It highlights different opinions and remains polite and often informative. 👍 to you all!

Edit: many thanks for the award!

    11. Trump’s very public Belarus blunder definitely showed his small hands.

I’m sure Canadian negotiators were aware of Canada’s potash advantage but Belarus openly and publicly saying they can not meet US demands means any bluffs the US side may have made earlier that they could find other suppliers is now non-existant.

    12. With his majority Carney will pivot into US investment mode and land a trade agreement exactly like what was offered.
Shrink the Federal Government workforce, crash unionize strikes and bypass natives via 1 yrs gov reviews.
It’s glorious to have a Con in power.
Sure Brookfield and his old E.U. friends get rich but corruption is the Quebec and laurentian way.

Carney could say the US can open a military base on Baffin Island and Liberal supporters here would tell us why that is a genius move

    14. BrightPerspective on

Carney is developing the relationship with the next US government, and dangling a treat in front of trump to keep him on better behavior

    15. No we should ship all of product we ship to the united states and send it to china. Shouldn’t be a problem because after all u s a doesn’t need anything from canada

    16. Trump’s trying to stay ahead of a possible export tariff on potash by Canada in response to his latest tariffs on Canadian goods. The US imports 90% of what it needs from us. It’s a critical agricultural fertilizer for American farmers. Sound’s like Carney is hinting that he might decide to expand the range of products we’ve put an export tariff on.
