I created a pharmacy price comparison page on MedCena.lv. Started as a small script for myself

MedCena.lv collects daily prices from five Latvian pharmacy e-stores: BENU, Apotheka, Euroaptieka, Saules aptieka and InternetAptieka.lv. You can compare over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, nutritional supplements, cosmetics, etc.

The idea started very simply. I have allergies, so I have to regularly buy pills for that and some other vitamins. It was quite tedious to open several pages of pharmacies and compare prices every time, so at the beginning I wrote a small script for myself only for these couple of products. After that, I thought that maybe a full-fledged project can be made from it.

Now you can see in one place where the particular product is available and how much it costs. Along with the price, I also show what constitutes the actual price of the purchase: loyalty program prices and conditions, delivery costs, minimum order amount and available discount codes.

There is also a shopping list. Put everything you need in it, and MedCena calculates in which pharmacy the entire purchase together with delivery is cheaper. You can also see if it is more profitable to split the purchase between two pharmacies.

Medicines have information from the register of the State Medicines Agency: a link to the instructions for use, the active substance and other medicines with the same active substance.

Some limitations:

• Prices are from e-shops, not physical pharmacies.
• I show non-prescription drugs and other pharmacy products. I deliberately do not include prescription drugs.
• The data of the lunar pharmacy are not yet available, so MedCena does not show its prices at the moment.

The page is free and without registration. I have nothing to do with pharmacies, I just show the prices and the link to the e-shop where you can buy.

While I was making this for myself, it was pretty clear what I needed for myself. Now I want to understand if it is also useful for others. If you try and something is missing or bothers you, especially in the mobile version, write.
