J’ai fait mes secondaires en francophone.
On avait quelques heures de néerlandais oui, à côté de beaucoup d’autre cours…
Malheureusement j’aimais pas le néerlandais à l’école ou on nous l’a pas fait aimé je ne sais pas.
Mais j’ai commencé des cours de néerlandais il y a deux semaines et je suis très motivé.
Je n’ai aucun doute sur le fait que le néerlandais est un énorme plus pour une personne en Belgique.
Funnily enough whenever I end up meeting and hanging out with French speaking Belgian we usually communicate in English, which I think is a very Belgian solution lmao. But if that actually became a widespread modus operandi lotsa politicians would probably cry incessantly about it

Ik denk er hetzelfde over als over (met name de jongere) Vlamingen die geen Frans kunnen: zeer jammer, gemiste kans, maar vaak niet de fout van het individu.
Een systeem van slecht taalonderwijs, vooroordelen ingegeven door familie/media/politici, en een volledig in twee gedeelde nieuwsvoorziening; dat helpt allemaal niet

For a person studying languages, this is a must. And actually for all studies that have roots in the ‘A-stroom’ this would be a good thing. Now a welder or mechanic probably shouldn’t. And print operator or electrician, perhaps but I think there might not be much enthousiasm for it.
In any case submersion is the best way to learn a language. But we should probably limit who we put through that.

Je n’ai pas l’impression que nos amis wallons s’intéressent vraiment à apprendre le néerlandais, malheureusement. Le français a une culture tellement riche qu’il n’y a pas vraiment d’intérêt à leurs yeux, à mon avis.

Les échanges linguistiques sont peut être une partie de la solution, mais je pense que les francophones (j’en suis un) doivent s’exposer (et être exposés) beaucoup plus à la culture flamande. C’est pas normal que les Wallons ne connaissent pas pommelien thijs, Knokke off, Eugen kweek ou les programmes pour enfants hoodie ou #likeme, ou seulement doublés en français.
Quand j’étais en secondaire on a vu en 6 ans une chanson de Clouseau et le film Daens, le reste n’était pas des éléments culturels flamands mais une histoire de jeunes sur une péniche sur des cassettes de mauvaises qualités (Klipper)
Er zijn zeker Walen en Brusselaars die zeer behoorlijk Nederlands spreken (mijn Frans is zeker niet perfect), maar omdat Nederlands een keuzevak is in Wallonie en Frans een verplicht vak in Vlaanderen is er een zekere asymmetrie en dat is jammer. Benieuwd of het gaat lukken om dat recht te trekken vanaf September komend jaar… Ik zie niet goed waar men plots al die leerkrachten Nederlands vandaan gaat toveren maar ben wel benieuwd.

It’s a side effect of regional schooling systhem. If it was federal and teachers could go to wallonia to learn proper dutch im sure a couple would and learn the walloons the language of their countrymen.

Een onfortuinlijk gevolg van hoe bewust gepolariseerd de taalgrenzen in dit land zijn.
Beaucoup de néerlandophones se plaignent que les Wallons ne parlent pas le néerlandais. Et ils ont en partie raison : le niveau moyen de base en néerlandais est catastrophique en Wallonie. Mais je n’ai pas l’impression qu’en Flandre, le plupart des gens sont capables de tenir une conversation en français ou de suivre le journal de la RTBF. C’est tout simplement qu’il faut utiliser fréquemment une langue pour la comprendre et la parler. Et dans la vie de tous les jours, les gens ont simplement trop peu l’occasion d’entrer en contact avec les langues des autres.
Je hebt veel Nederlandstaligen die klagen over Walen die geen Nederlands spreken. En ze hebben deels gelijk, het gemiddelde basisniveau Nederlands is verschrikkelijk in Wallonië. Maar ik heb niet de indruk dat ze in Vlaanderen een Franstalige conversatie kunnen voeren of zelfs het RTBF journaal kunnen volgen. Zeker niet na 5-10 jaar na het middelbare onderwijs. De realiteit is gewoon dat je een taal frequent moet gebruiken om ze te begrijpen en te spreken. En in het dagelijks leven komen mensen simpelweg te weinig in aanraking met elkaars talen.

I’m OK with Walloons not speaking Flemish. Most Walloons don’t need it in their daily life. If you know some words, I’d appreciate it though.
I am less tolerant towards people from Brussels. You live 1km from Flanders and don’t know how to say a few simple words? I don’t get that. Interestingly, BXL people with foreign backgrounds speak much better Flemish.
I don’t judge. I can ask for bread in french but don’t start talking to me about anything more complicated.
Deutsch sprekende actuellement
Ik ben altijd als jobstudent in Wallonië gaan werken. Half vakantiestemming, veel normaal dagelijkse taal in het Frans. Niets dan voordelen, je wordt er zelfs voor betaald. Naast de Franse les op school, was dat een fantastische leerschool. Nu ben ik quasi tweetalig.
In het begin was het een beetje strompelen en fouten maken, maar ik kreeg nooit de indruk dat ze me dom vonden of belachelijk ofzo. Vaak zelfs gewoon charmant.

Ik heb neederland geleerd in secundaris onderwijs. Ik heriner niet veel. Alleen dat ik ga naar school met de bus.
And I needed to speak Dutch less than twice a year for the last 20 years. r/belgium is the only place where I need Dutch, and now the translation is so efficient that I stopped trying…
About languages, I used English everyday at work, for 15+ years. And now, if I had to pick, I would go for German. I need it more in my Belgium-based office.
