The 52,9% is also framing, considering it rose to that level cuz Milei fixed the exchange rate. But still, he’s within the normal Argentinian range. No doubt Argentina is getting hit by high fuel prices too, no country can chainsaw themselves out of those (except for the US, Iran and Russia)

He had to devalue the peso because the governments official rate was muchartifically lower than the blue dollar rate you could get on the street
The problem is Argentina can’t afford their government spending and not to deal with the inflation, but if you propose a rational and complicated package of ecnonomic reform and curb the spending, you will never be elected. You have to be a firebrand that brings strong ideaology into your base and idolize youself to take the power. And there is big side effect of it for that kind of candidate.
People in different camps tend to only listen to one side of the story.
Just for context, the average poverty rate under the previous government was roughly 40%. So having it around 32% is still a notable improvement under the current government, especially since poverty never fell that low during the previous government’s term.
He still has to be careful, though, and make sure the poverty rate doesn’t start rising further again.

Woah, misleading article. Seems like France24 has an agenda. When you dig into the numbers, it was 52.9% when he took office. I got down to 28.2% and over the last 6 months went up to 32.3%.
They’re still way ahead from where they were before he took office.

Misleading ass article. The poverty rate is significantly lower than when Milei took first. But sure cherry pick the last six months where it climbed a little while ignoring the fact that with all things considered, Milei’s administration has actually done a decent job at lowering inflation.

As much as I think he’s crazy, I visited BA the day of his inauguration and then 2 years later and the visible poverty had definitely improved by my 2025 visit. That’s just my observation as a tourist though.
