    1. Good. I think Germany has a large enough population that it should do fine enough with professionals. And the male-only draft and should never see its full implementation. Constitution should be changed before it is ever mandatory to do a full draft of a generation. And in general politics should stop sidelining and ignoring young people to the extent it does if it wants to ask for their service like this.

Good to see young women organising this and taking part too – the real divide is between young people and the government, not men and women.

ah yes the ‘Why die for Danzig/Plutot Hitler que le Front populaire’ crowd. Why take any measures when we can appease the fascists?

As I said before (and as I have been accused of being pro Russian), absolutely nobody from Western Europe will be appear for military service. The moment the back and forth talk from Western Europe about Russia aligns with Erdoğan’s subservience to the West, Turks may find themselves facing a path to death in Eastern Europe. And all to protect those who hate Turks and Turkey. That is why the average Turkish citizen must be extremely vigilant.

    4. “We are restricting your social media, you have to pay for our pensions, you have to accept immigrants, you have to start working more, oh and btw you have to serve in the army.”

Yeah I wonder why they aren’t excited.

    5. Germany may suck for them, they’re not wrong to think that way. But, wait till they let Russia hammer them like they’re doing to Ukraine…

I don’t know if there’s an english word or term for it, but in swedish there’s a term called “fredsskadad”. Pretty much “damaged by peace”. The idea or paradox that because of the wonder and beauty of long term peace and stability, which in turn exists thanks to older generations having to fight for it, people are now in denial about conflict and reality of war, and unwilling to defend the beautiful and rare peace and democracy that they have and that people once shed blood for.

    7. I got downvoted to hell for saying “enjoy your compulsory military service” to all the European celebrating my countries withdrawing from natoz. I. Told. You. So.

If Dirk Nowitzki can be conscripted and preform his mandatory military service. These stupid college kids can too.

    9. So far, the law is only for voluntary service; they should wait to see how many people sign up. Politicians should build up the country in a way that people want to fight for the country. If they did a good job, they should get enough volunteers.

    10. They can go and fuck themselves with their idiotic lives in comfort zone. Poor shaky flowers. Until a dictator’s army knock on their parent’s homes and take them to die. Without any fighting.

    11. Europe spent decades shitting on Germany identity and pride after World War 2. Its hard to motivate individuals to fight the nebulous concept of state. When you spent decades dismantling it for the very fear that Germany would become a threat again. Its only being a whole country for less than 40 years.

    12. People aren’t patriotic because they’re too comfortable. People aren’t patriotic because there’s nothing really worthy of fighting for anymore.

Great, so let’s all go bleed on a battlefield for a while just so we can go back to..…let’s see..…ah yes, to an overpriced rented apartment, to paying back massive student loans, to a shitty job market, to living paycheck to paycheck… Yeah, how enticing…

There’s a reason they keep copy/pasting the “You’ll own nothing and you’ll be happy”, because that’s the world young people are forced to live in. Can’t really fucking blame them…

Happy to send mountains of weapons and cash to a country to forcibly mobilize its population, but doesn’t want to mobilize themselves. What fucking hypocrisy.

    14. We need soldiers to defend Germany. Our chancellor just isn’t very good at explaining that to students. Otherwise, I’m sure they’d all be thrilled to fight for him and the nation.

    15. Wouldn’t even be that mad about draft if it wasn’t sending people to die based on whats in their pants

      Equality looks different

    16. Radiant_Client1458 on

Unironically there is nothing worth dying for in modern Europe.

When Germans are going to be a minority in Germany by the end of your lifetime what are you fighting to protect?

Either produce brilliant geo-politicians who can effectively disincentivize gangster states Russia, China & Iran from aggression, or have a military that can project FUGGEDABOUTIT.

More realistically, best to have the right mix of both the above.

    18. Embarrassed-Log-9628 on

What did you expect when the allied powers thoroughly removed the German will to fight from the psyche of the people?

      Is Woden still in there?

    19. Young people don’t feel represented, the odds are stacked against them economically, it’s hard for them to get a start in life. I understand why they don’t want to fight for the system that just calls on them to be cannon fodder.
