It’s crazy how this is even in question. We need these taxes for funding social services, roads, hospitals etc.

This whole “we’re taxed too much” bs is typical American Republican rhetoric’s.

If they actually cared about taxes they would have been amplifying the provincial government to remove their fuel taxes as well.

      It’s all theatrics.

The issue isn’t taxes. It’s the Americans invading Iran and Russians invading Ukraine that’s causing all of this.

    2. Then before the next long weekend, prices will be back to the taxed levels, while the oil corps take the profit, and the government is still out the tax rev

    3. But I thought these gas taxes were what paid for the roads and that’s why cyclists shouldn’t get bike lanes?

    4. Holy shit do they have *any* other ideas?? Taxes aren’t the only lever of government, come on. And we all benefit from those taxes. We can’t just hollow out the funding for public institutions and then wonder why they don’t properly function. It’s such a lazy trope of right wing politics at this point.

    5. I wonder if any of these events in the past 25yrs would want us to limit the export of Middle East oil to the East coast by building pipelines and refineries.
      Checks notes: Nope.

    6. Burn the country down is not a good option , we need a balanced approach instead of extinction and never ending fires .

Trump starts war that skyrockets fuel prices..

“ITS THE DAMN LIBERAL TAXES MAKING LIFE SO EXPENSIVE” – PP

Seriously, can we stop with the divisive rhetoric and actually work together to make life better for Canadians??

    8. Temporarily eliminate a tax to help struggling Canadians amid a trade war with an unstable super power? I love that, wait, it’s Poilievre’s idea? I hate it!

Or why not get the oil & gas to industry to subside the cost until Canada day? I mean they are making huge profits because of the war even though the oil they use is right here.

    10. Doesn’t the government need the tax revenue? Last time I checked they spent billions more than they bring in.

Hey Reddit! I pay 50% in income taxes, will never own a home and am barely getting by on a “good” salary. The cost of living is insurmountable, and the quality of social services is laughable. But you know what? Not wanting to get sodomized by taxes is AMERICAN, and America BAD. I for one wish I were paying 70% in taxes! Trump bad! Upvote good!!!

P.S. taxing used car sales is also GOOD—why shouldn’t the same vehicle be taxed every single time it’s sold at a value the government determines? Tax GOOD, America BAD!

(Needed to be extra sure I got the upvotes)

    12. Just admit your biases. If Carney and the Liberals had proposed this, everybody on the sub would be in full support of it

    13. I love all the conservative voices in this thread advocating for **Corporate Welfare**, **b**ecause that what it is.

A tax break for diesel consumers, yes some farmers but most diesel is consumed by transportation of goods and materials by corporations for profit. I’m guessing even a lot of those farmers are registered as corps.

**Anyhow, PP proposes Corporate Welfare, which all us hard working average Canadians will have to repay through the taxes on our wages for many years to come.**

**What happened to fiscal conservatism, socialism bad?** Is okay if it helps my rich buddy take more money from poor people on Tuesday for the hamburger he ate today.

    14. Simple solutions for complex problems. I would dare to say for simple minds.

This is a bandaid that will work for one week until oil companies increase the price again to take advantage of the situation.

PP keeps complaining about the deficit but he only suggests stupid things that have zero impact on citizens and increase the deficit.

But hey, for a simple mind, this sounds great and that’s all that matters to PP. Sad, just sad.

    15. Why is fuel taxed to death in this country when it’s a basic need. We don’t tax groceries or rent the same way…

    16. It won’t help Canadians at all. The primary users of diesel are commercial, and companies won’t pass on the savings to the consumer. We won’t see any impact from it.

    17. Increase our deficit more so they can cry poor next election. Why else do they keep asking for tax cuts while complaining about the deficit. Doesn’t make sense. We know who tax cuts help the most and it ain’t the working class.

    18. They’ll just raise prices to make up for the cut in taxes, you won’t see a dime of savings and they’ll make more profit

    19. Kind_Nectarine6971 on

Yes let’s also pass anti profiteering laws and enforce the anti monopoly laws we do have – do that and I’m in support of it. Otherwise – they will just up the price within a month and claim they had to.

    20. Why diesel and not other fuels. Fuck everyone else I guess. This is why it’s a tax on all fuels. The market will decide and adjust.

    21. When the conservatives propose getting rid of Peter Poilievre maybe I’ll listen. I’m surprised he didn’t have some dumb fucking rhyme or a cringe rap for this one. What a fucking joke.

    22. Shell the gas company the q2 profits were 9.8 billion dollars and the q1 profits where like 6.8 billion dollars the issue isn’t taxes on gas it’s the profit the gas companies are making for their shareholders

    23. Of course they do.

Eliminate all taxes! Then the government fails completely, corporations win and we’re all fucked.

Carney will probably do it, so whatever.

    24. How does this help with fuel prices? The last time this happened when the carbon tax was eliminated, gas prices dipped for a couple days, but after that, it was as if nothing happened.
