The fact he had a bravery award and was commended as exemplary police officer should count against him rather than ve considered mitigating factors imo. This is someone who’s demonstrated a clear understanding of the law, who has demonstrated he knows right from wrong. This was intentional, violent, traumatic and humilating act that he was never in any doubt was wrong.
