The Trump administration is threatening to stop the procurement system that provides Ukraine with weapons in order to press Kyiv to halt its deep strikes on Russian energy infrastructure, according to officials in Europe.

The officials, who received calls from American officials on Saturday and Sunday or were briefed on them, said the US was lobbying European capitals and Kyiv in an attempt to end the attacks on Russian oil refineries. The White House declined to confirm or comment on the calls.

The US message, the officials added, included threats to cut off intelligence sharing and Purl — the Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List mechanism for procuring US weapons for Ukraine.

“They are calling Kyiv . . . they are calling everyone [in Europe],” said an official who received a call from a US defence official.

Purl is a Nato-managed initiative through which Kyiv’s allies purchase US-made weapons that are then supplied to Ukraine. The US does not make a financial contribution to the fund.

Trump on Sunday surprised Kyiv and the Europeans his administration had sought to pressure, when he announced on social media that Ukraine and Russia had reached a ceasefire to halt attacks on each other’s energy infrastructure.

“Effective immediately, there is an ENERGY CEASEFIRE in the War between Russia and Ukraine. Both parties have agreed. Do not break it!” the US president wrote on his Truth Social platform. The office of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said it was unaware of a deal, and it was not immediately clear whether Russia had agreed.

One person who said he was contacted by US officials was Pavlo Palisa, Zelenskyy’s military adviser and former general of Ukraine’s 93rd mechanised brigade.

Shortly before Trump claimed an energy ceasefire had been reached, Zelenskyy had reiterated his own desire for such a deal in an interview with ABC News on Sunday morning.

“Just now our repair teams are restoring electricity and water supplies in Kyiv [after Russian strikes moments ago],” a senior Ukrainian official close to Zelenskyy told the FT on Sunday moments after Trump posted his statement. “Nobody has heard [of the ceasefire].”

The White House also declined to say whether Trump would heed Zelenskyy’s proposal to force Russian President Vladimir Putin to accept a total ceasefire for 60 days so that Ukraine could hold elections.

    2. Every week, Trump proves he’s a bigger piece of shit than everyone had already thought. Quite impressive really.

    3. Trump does not have good cards anymore. They cut so much support so far and Ukraine has adopted. I wish him to reap what he sowed.

    4. I honestly have to say that i despise the american people for voting this POS into office.

They knew what he was, we lived through 4 years and ~~one~~ two impeachments before.

      **Edit:** Impeachment correction

Trump needs to be impeached. He shouldn’t be the guy representing the U.S., he’s fucking everything up.

“The US does not make contributions to the fund”

So how exactly do you threaten to revoke arms sales that you don’t finance? All this will do is give European arms makers more clout.

Maybe figure out how to end the mess you started in the Middle East that caused the price spike.

Already been blocking most everything since that POS traitor Trump and his sycophants took over. Be proud America you’re now allied with Russia, North Korea, China and even Iran, funding the Russian war machine buying their oil! So very proud of the USA! /s

    8. Too bad, the intel sharing was the only thing left. The PURL was already sending nothing, and threatening to stop sending nothing is not the flex Trump Admin thinks it is.

    9. As an American, I do NOT agree with what is going on. I dont think many do. Mid Terms very soon!

This is what happens when you allow the executive branch unlimited power, no checks and balances

    11. Who saw this coming? Pretty much everyone, that tiny little bit of diesel russias providing was enough to fabricate an excuse to cut the Ukrainians off.

    12. Glass-Jaguar4178 on

There we go, the plan was executed like a cheap golf tournement at least I hope noone beliefs the naarative of ‘zelensky is bombing our oil and eating the cats n dogs!’

What happened to all the oil we have in the US. Oh, that’s right, oil companies sell it overseas. So any Russian desiel brought in to the US will be offset by additional increases in desire should overseas where the big profit is.

    14. Disgusting that this guy was elected. So disappointed in my country voting for this bullshit.

    15. That was the whole idea. Instead of blocking russian oil export they want to block Ukraine.

    16. Old saying, dunno where from.. it’s *an empty vessel that makes the most noise.*

Voters matter right now. The serious income from arms exports matter. The US defense industry needs to fill its order book.

My view is that Ukraine should exploit the window of opportunity, before the midterms, to keep reducing Russian potential for future conflict.

He has been banging this drum long enough I hope everyone involved is appropriately prepared to say GFY.

This is back stabbing from Trump, who is the real culprit for having expensive diesel

    19. Weapons that have been paid for with EU and Ukrainian money? Trump would simply label this “aid” and not “extortion”.

    20. This definitely proves Ukraine’s drone attacks are highly effective. Superb! Time to turn them up to warp speed! Slava Ukraini!

If you’re a US citizen, call your Senator and Representative and the White House and tell them that you support Ukraine and want to give them more weapons, not less.
