    1. Labour government had the opportunity to do the right thing but they seem to have doubled down with them calling the Green motion that Zionism is racist is anti-Semitic.

Hats off to Sally Rooney for having the courage and integrity to stand up against genocide despite the financial consequences

    3. MaryLouGoodbyeHeart on

Hopefully Rooney can find a publisher with some balls who is willing to dare the UK government to prosecute them for selling fiction.

    4. What will this mean for public libraries then. Rooney gets paid from a fund each year based on how much her books are loaned. PLR ….will the British library fall foul of the legislation

I’m surprised that they’ve taken this route, rather than challenging it.

While she’s better off than most, it’s still her livelihood.

The works themselves don’t support whatever the Brits decide they don’t like.

It seems it would be fairly easily challenged in Europe (Britain is still subject to the ECHR)

    6. I don’t really agree with palestine action being prescribed as a terrorist organisation but why doesn’t she donate the funds to one of the multitude of other organisations that provide relief to Palestinians. Seems a bit odd that she only wants to donate to the one that damaged military aircraft, attacked a police officer with a sledgehammer and had future plans to attack bases used to train Ukrainian pilots. Either way fuck Israel.

So Palestine Action is a terrorist group because they put some paint on military planes, but the country that murders 20,000 children is okay

      from the article….

“the publisher said current UK legislation meant it could no longer pass on earnings from UK sales to Rooney.

“To sell a writer’s work and not be able to pass on earnings is an unconscionable situation for a publisher,” Faber said.”

my question is how is there liability on the publisher?

This reads like they want to pay her, but can’t? Thing is
the publisher isn’t paying Palestine Action, they are making contractually obligated payments to an author. What she does with it is surely on her and nothing to do with them?

Faber being a real one here actually.

Edit for the people who couldnt be bothered reading:

“In an earlier statement, the publisher said: “Current legislation in the UK has led to circumstances where Faber cannot pass on UK earnings to Sally Rooney for her work.

“To sell a writer’s work and not be able to pass on earnings is an unconscionable situation for a publisher.

“As such, and in full agreement with Sally, we have taken the decision that we can no longer supply her works in the UK in any format.”

Faber said it remained proud of Rooney’s body of work and would continue selling her books in other territories.”

There’s nothing actually stopping her from using the UK royalties to fund another group to support the victims of the genocide. And using the money from another country to pledge to Palestine action.

It’s all personal choice but if that was me I’d probably put the money going to aid the victims over making a stand on this. But like I say it’s her personal choice.

    11. Affectionate-Idea451 on

She has the choice to have Faber sell the books and donate her share of the profits to organisations which would use the money to assist Palestinian people.

But she prefers to donate to an organisation willing to attack UK police officers and damage jet engines in the UK.

      It’s a choice she’s entitled to make.

    12. BarFamiliar5892 on

Member of Palestine Action have done things like attacking police officers with a sledgehammer, causing them lifelong, life changing injuries. They’re absolute scum and shouldn’t be supported. There are ways to support Palestine without supporting these violent thugs.

    13. Right-wing grifters on YouTube: Sharia law is coming! Muslim extremists will ban free speech!

Right-wing grifters when an actual foreign country ensures free speech is eroding in real time: Crickets.

    14. I call bullshit. If there were a real threat, wouldn’t all the streaming services have to take down the tv versions of her books too?

Are they looking to go back to the dark ages? Will they be burning witches at the stake next?

    16. Wild that it took 21 years of the **UDA** murdering Catholics for the British to proscribe them as a terrorist organisation, and about 21 days for them to do the same to Palestine Action, a protest group who, to my, knowledge have never killed anyone. They just damaged Israeli arms manufacturers’ sites in the UK.

    17. Why is she supporting terrorists? Doesn’t she know old people holding up placards is very dangerous
