    1. Short memory french people.. Happens every 3-4 years.

Nothing change. Except more and more frustration, addressed with more and more police.. What could go wrong, uh?

Do protester think that property damage will somehow make their situation better?
Why are French so keen on violent protests even when there is no good reason?

      Cui bono?
Ruzzia wants this desperately, to divide EU and spread chaos everythere. France is the same story

    4. Everyone who vandalised , looted or stole things should be punished and jailed. They also should be made personally responsible to pay up the damages

In my opinion, the underlying root causes are genuine but such actions should never be tolerated.

The issue is how exactly to find these people because they are mostly masked.

Now about the overall situation of education and cost of living in France. I don’t think there is any easy solution for that. Government is already in huge debt and taxes are already very high.

It seems like how it was in Greece few years back. The cost cutting in government offices and reduction of benefits will be very painful but that’s the only solution.

I do believe Le Pen just won the next election. Watching a bunch of black guys loot and steal and beat up civilians pretty much gives Le Pen the win.

Looting, breaking other people stuff is a crime no matter the circumstances. Violaters should be dealt with according to the law.

Pretty interesting that these massive violent protests are starting up ahead of elections. America just had those “student protests” that completely disappeared after Trump was elected. You’re being manipulated France, to elect a fascist. I hope you make better choices than we did.

The protests remind me of a bit of the protests in Hamburg in 2017, with all the vandalism, the thing was back then, that the protest did the exact opposite and turned away most people from supporting the cause.

    9. Sadly, this comment section is either full of bots or people mislead by the medias. This article is not representative of the truth, either in spirit or in letter.

    10. The vast majority protest as they ought to, there’s always a smaller number of people ruining it for everyone else.

    11. this is not a protest. these are mindless riots by anarchists.

a protest usually has a specific a political goal and is usually peaceful. these rioters didnt have a goal other than to destroy and steal shit. if you just watched a few videos of them, youd realize that.

a lot of times i didnt even hear them speak french but some other language. these people burn and defile historic artworks and monuments because theyre not french and because they dont have any cultural connection to them.

    12. Odd that it happens now and in many countries at the same time, and in a way that seems tailored exactly to cause destabilization to local governments. I’m pretty sure if they follow the money trail they’ll find a lot of euros, and hidden behind them a nice amount of dollars and rubles.

edit: just to clarify: I’m not referring to the many people protesting in a civil way, which I fully support, but the many plants and the agents that spread hate online to enrage otherwise peaceful people.

    13. This article is so dramatic and cherry picked what the hell. A war?? Do the journalists know what a war looks like… I live in the center of Marseille and ok this morning there was a few street with garbage on the floor and a few vandalized shop. Which isn’t okay and I don’t condone but 95% of the center has ZERO damages. And the rest has damages similar to a trashmen strike. Even the city hall have no visible damage even though yesterday it was all people talked about. A war 🙄

I feel bad for France. They cant more borrow or raise more taxes. Something has to be cut to satisfy these demands which will cause further protests and riots down the line. Stuck in quicksand and sinking.

    15. It’s quite sad that the 150-year-old Limoges town hall survived both World Wars, and existed since 1876, only to be burned down.

      Complete and utter lawlessness.

    16. And this is nothing compared to next may if far right gets into power. Either the government adresses the underlying issues of a youth sacrified for the sake of old boomers that had it all and still want more, or the country burns, this was just a warm up.

It’s as if you’re speedrunning to bring Le Pen to victory, and the AfD in Germany along with her.

And who knows what Russia’s influence is in all of this. Is anyone even trying to keep track of it?

      Oh well.

    18. MrTrollMcTrollface on

I find it interesting that the only population segment that never riots, never protests, doesn’t pay bribes, and still get everything they want at the expense of others are … boomers.

Why do they never suffer like the rest of us? Since 1972 the median pension is higher then the median wage in France. Why are they so untouchable?

    19. ThreeTreesForTheePls on

Always interesting how this sub will very specifically only discuss the rioters, then apply it to the entire event, as if we have not seen what has to be tens if not hundreds of thousands pass through the streets of Paris and Lyon combined, entirely peacefully and without destruction and looting.

No, all of French protest in this moment is violent looting, there’s definitely not a vast majority of peaceful protesting, no that’s bad for news sales, and terrrrrrible for online discussion and bot farms.
