Sex tourism is big business in the Philippines. But the consequences are long-term. Foreign men – including from Australia and New Zealand – are estimated to have fathered tens of thousands of children to local sex workers. Now, a trailblazing Australian-led project, is using DNA samples from these children to track down their sex-tourist fathers and demand child support.
Probably is its usually the poor dirty white men who they’ll be trying to get child support out of. All the wealthy ones aren’t going to the Phillipines on their own to exploit girls.
Anyone can post how exact they are going to track down the fathers using half of their kids DNA? How about false positive? While on the surface this seems to be helping poor women in Philippines but a cynic way of looking at it – it’s offloading or shakedown on foreigners.
Shouldn’t these ladies be more careful? This is their job, some basic workplace safety standards should be followed.
This is not enforceable. Moreover, who’s going to allow access to a DNA database and what is the likelihood of these low-lifes being in the database?
Who the heck would go to any sex worker anywhere in the world and not wear protection?
That’s why, when i find my magic lamp and wish us all to New Earth and gift many countries with my progeny, I’ll change some of their DNA markers.

I feel like the “father should be involved” aspect should be thrown out the window when you’re consensually engaging in sex work with traveling strangers. I can see why the child would want to know aspects of their own genetics for health purposes but that’s about as far as I feel tracking down the father would be useful for.
Elon Musk needs to look into this. He wants to populate the planet…let him go to poor countries and impregnate sex workers who really didn’t have much choice in life about their empolyment. Many were sold by their patents.
Win/win situation. He can conceive as many offspring as possible, and the women and children get some financial support.
How do you achieve this without a genetic dragnet? I feel like they are using the “degenerate sex tourists’ angle as a Trojan horse for something nefarious going on.
Do they have any obligation to pay child support since this happened in a whole different country? If they don’t then this seems like a fruitless effort, because few to none of them will want to pay up.

The title seems kind of misleading in way.
First it says “sex tourism” which makes you think it’s dudes just planning on misleading and dogging a bunch of women while on a vacation. But then it says they’re visiting prostitutes, which are constantly doing this whether the guys are tourists or not.
So the real problem is that the guy is having unprotected sex with prostitutes. It’s not really a “sex tourism” thing. He could do that in Vegas or Amsterdam.
Secondly, this project claims that they’re going to use DNA to get child support for these women. This will surely make the problem even worse, because now the women will have a financial incentive to get pregnant by foreign tourists so they have another source of income. Since many countries have laws that dictate that you need to pay the same amount in child support regardless of the location of the mother, a single child support payment will be about 3x the average monthly income in the Philippines.
