“In fact, when grown in optimal conditions, duckweed can contain up to 45% protein, making it an excellent source of this essential nutrient.
Studies have shown that one hectare of duckweed can produce between 10 and 18 tons of protein per year. In comparison, soy beans, the most widely grown legume in the world, produce just 0.6 to 1.2 tons.”

Idk if anyone here has ever put duckweed in their aquarium, but this could turn into an entire environmental disaster as an invasive species.
Duckweed competes to block sunlight and it is very very good at it. It can throw off the ecosystem of anything it touches. It grows frantically and never stops growing.

That’s less than 2.5 acres, or roughly the size of my front yard. Just to put it into perspective. 100 meters by 100 meters. Approximately the size of a FIFA soccer field. To produce as much protein as the weight of a sperm whale.
The amount of organic waste would also be astounding. About the weight of a sperm whale 😂

It may work, but is it *sustainable*?
