    A software update created technology havoc for [Microsoft Windows](https://www.britannica.com/technology/Microsoft-Windows) users across the world this week. It impacted everything from [airlines to financial companies and 911 services](https://www.sfchronicle.com/us-world/article/crowdstrike-outage-sfo-19583626.php) — literally bringing many operations to a halt. 

    While the full extent of such disruptions will become clear over the coming few days, many are wondering if this is an isolated incident or a precursor to what can be expected for our tech-centric world.

  2. We take it as a certainty that all our technology works like clockwork. We now got confronted by how dependent we are of it. I hope this will awaken more people to find solutions for future outages.

    It’s going to happen more often technology always breaks down just like machines

  5. It’s fairly ironic that something originally invented to help maintain communication during an apocalyptic event (likely nuclear war), is now a vulnerable weakness that same society is built upon.

  6. It will drive away anonymity – someday we’ll have to authenticate ourselves with a worldwide global id to track all network interactions…
