      33. Havent watched ‘traditional TV’ for over 10 years. Why? Too many ads. Programmes are shit. License fee funds the salary of nonces.

No wonder they are fucking desperate for TV licensing to include Live streams.

    3. I have not watched ‘traditional’ tv other than Match Of The Day for over 10 years. Between YouTube, Netflix and Amazon I’m pretty much covered.

Why would I watch AD ridden TV when I can stream it, in higher quality, ad free on my computer?

And if I want to have more variety, YouTube has a video for just about anything.

Traditional tv has grown off-putting for me. If I want to watch terrestrial tv, I’d need a tv license at the very least but also possibly a set top box, and if I want cable/satellite I need a dish or cable, plus the typical package commitment of 24 months… it was justifiable when it was the main way to watch everything, but now it’s just a big pain for something I can’t guarantee I’ll fully use.

But I do like the traditional tv experience. I do in some ways miss the programme schedules and I miss channel surfing, but not enough to buy into that model all over again.

A quick flick through the TV guide will tell you why. Utter garbage from dusk till dawn. Anything worth watching is available on demand.

    7. Can’t say I blame them.

Why would they want to sit through ads for content which by large doesnt appeal to them
Even the decent stuff has vanished from iplayer over time, which is not just wrong, but a missed oppertunity

Barely watch anything, if I’m in the mood I have a backlog of films and boxsets I’ll probably never get ahead of

Traditional tv is also mostly shit with reality tv or crappy gameshows.

Alot of user generated content on YouTube is better quality

I think it’s kinda sad that traditional TV has gone.

I do wonder why Netflix doesn’t do things like ‘episode premieres’ where everyone watches the same episode as it releases at a coordinated time.

I kinda hate the binge era of TV, and the millions of different streaming services for things.

Where we live we don’t get many HD channels, and the signal is weak. When we moved in there wasn’t a roof top aerial connection and haven’t bothered to sort one out, and internal aerials don’t work.

I still pay my license and use the iPlayer (mostly for CBeebies. Ad free TV for children will be sorely missed if it goes, as will the benchmark the BBC sets for journalism) and other main channels to stream live TV but my go to when I’m sat down without anything to do is to go to YouTube, rather than what I would have done 29 years ago which would have been to turn on the atV and flick through to see what’s on. I’m not paying sky or virgin, either.

It’s weird now when I go to my parents or in-laws who have regular TV and I can flick through the channels.

I do sometimes miss it, and think how we don’t really watch many regular programs like I did when I was a kid.

I think Gladiators was the last show we made sure to watch when it was live as it is good family TV that our young kids enjoy too.

Maybe it’s the old rose tinted glasses, but I miss the days of sitting watching TV with the family and those harmless shows like Lovejoy on a regular schedule.

Maybe not having TV schedules there to work around makes life feel a little more chaotic.

I do find I end up watching rubbish on YouTube and being too aware of how it works and tries to feed me what it thinks I want. Sometimes I watch a GB news video just to see what nonsense they are boiling my parents brains with and regret it when it starts to try to feed me more.

    11. What’s even on TV these days?

They need to change their programming to appeal to the audience.

I’m 50 and I can’t remember the last time I watched normal telly. I really should cancel my license

Cause it’s utter shite. I’m 39 and I feel like TV took risks when I was a kid. I still have traumatic memories of watching Ghostwatch in 1992 when I was 7.

TV now is awful reality shows, ‘buy em and fix em’ bores and ads for phone chargers. It’s the equivalent of walking down a street with a poundland, a vape shop and a loan shop. Awful amount of ads, too.
