If they’re going to bring recidivism down then they need to deal with this as a matter of urgency. You can see how many on the right will respond to housing ex cons, though.

Moving one problem from one area into another….yeah overcrowding in prisons comes down…but homelessness goes up as well as crime from releasing petty crims back into the community! 💯

Don’t see the point of these articles. MOST British people are brainwashed to look past situations without seeing the human element. Yeh poor economic migrants that bravely crossed the channel, please feel okay in this 4* hotel we will give you what you need. British person let down by the system by all the failed safe guards that likely led to an offence, here’s not even a tent squabble in the dirt after being punished and likely go commit another crime to survive. Is this country for real. No wonder people are rioting.

We need to have a serious look at our justice system. It just isn’t working and we’ll only continue to see issues with repeat criminals if we don’t put more into preventing them ending up in prison in the first place and stop setting them up for failure when they’re released.

Prison is needed and punishment should be a part of the system but prevention and rehabilitation need a much larger focus. I’m hoping with Timpson as minister we see some of that fairly soon.

This kind of article doesn’t make an impact because many people reading it will themselves be in insecure housing. Yes, recidivism would decrease if prisoners were given education and support with housing, but it make no sense to expect people to support that when there is such widespread poverty and suffering.

This problem is not really about prisoners. It’s about the fact that so many people are living in poverty and misery.

    6. And this is why more life sentences should be handed out. They need more prisons for criminals to rot in, not fucking houses.

    7. This is just another symptom of our broken society. the government will not fix this, they will quietly sweep it under the carpet with the other problems we don’t want to talk about like the mental health crisis. Violent crime will only continue to increase the upper-middle clases who live far away from where these problems are based are not touched by it but the working class who live along side it are, expect more riots as people become more desperate. The govenment will clamp down on the rioter’s by enacting powers that limit free speach and eventully freedom of movement. There are solutions to these problems but they cost money we don’t have and are not popular with the liberal technocracy who run the country.

We do not live a serious country anymore.
