The message of Christianity includes that all human life should be valued, so I agree that racism is unchristian. There have been times historically where many Christians and indeed churches forgot that message.

    2. This isn’t like America where they would be losing their minds over this. They probably are unchristian.

There are plenty of polls that indicate the importance of Christianity in politics at the moment and while it’s no where near as stark as in the U.S. (religion being the most significant indicator of voting behaviour there) it does still matter in the UK. How major denominations vote is both interesting and makes perfect sense:

Most left wing: Catholics – makes sense when you think about areas where you get large communities of Irish extraction and the fact that they tend to be quite outward, European facing and don’t believe poverty is a moral thing.

Just below them are practicing Anglicans, who tend to be quite right on “Jesus loves you” types. High churchers tend to be more right wing than evangelicals but only slightly so.

Most right wing are Anglicans who don’t attend church. Which is quite telling isn’t it?

It’s really the people who aren’t engaged with what they declare to be an essential part of their culture who fret about it, not the Archbishop of Canterbury.

I don’t think the majority of rioters would even consider themselves christian in the first place. They might be anti-islam but it’s not because they want a christian country and to live by christian ideals.

Says the head of one of the most evil and depraved organisations the world has ever seen.

    6. Disagree. Has he read the bible? There’s some barbaric shit in there there’s sanctioned by god that makes the riots look tame. You can’t have a world view based on a book and play selective amnesia with some of its contents.

    7. He’s right. If Jesus was alive today the right would brand him as some woke socialist wannabe activist.

    8. The interesting thing about the CoE is that if you were to take a CoE priest from today and send them back 100 years to 1924, they would be regarded as a dangerous heretic.

    9. Jesus literally said “love thy neighbour”. He didn’t give conditions that said they had to be of the same race and religion as you and born in the came country. The far right are anything but Christian.

      Too late, too little.

Now that there were massive anti-nazi protests… it’s convenient, innit?

    11. Pope Urban II would have disagreed.

I guess that’s progress, but it feels they might be a little late to the party.

    12. It would have been nice if more people had said this during the 14 years of Tory occupation

Unfortunately this is what Christianity looks like now. With people like the vile Douglas Murray, who isn’t even Christian but is happy to associate with the fanatics, playing it as white people in opposition to brown people. With creepy preachers screaming that God wants you to make Trump a dictator. With Orban saying that Europe must be kept pure.

This is the problem with the rioters – they aren’t Christian most of the time, and if you ask them to identify what “Britishness” actually is, many of them struggle so they fall back on the ‘Christian roots of our traditions’, just as and when it suits them.

Forgive them, oh Lord, for they know not what they do.
