Also we’re not the only safe country in the world and frankly, beggars can’t be choosers. You’ve fled war, you’re safe in Europe. Don’t push your luck because you’ve heard we’ll give it to you.

Could we just put some big boats out. If you get on you’re given what you need to make your claim as well as information about the laws and customs, if you still go via small boat you’re automatically rejected? Less people dying, less money for gangs.

Standing on a beach in France – France’s problem (actually not, but still…)
Put a single toe in the water and then suddenly it’s UK’s problem?
France is allowing the shipping people across the Channel, sometimes to their death, but it’s a UK problem. For what? Existing?
France is encouraging these people. France is responsible for the deaths.

They need half a dozen of the Bibby Stockholm barges between Dover & France, straight from the small boats to a big one

France is safe enough. And they have the rest of the EU ton live in when they get French citizenship

The government just needs to turn the boats around, give them food and water and turn them around. It worked for Australia, so why it work for us? As soon as they realise they’ll get intercepted and turned around, they’ll soon stop as it’s not viable. The reason they’re happy to spend thousands illegally crossing the channel is because they know they’ll be given somewhere to stay, free healthcare etc. whilst their application is processed. Even if they do get rejected, they just need a human rights lawyer who’ll make a case for them and they’ll be allowed to stay.

Once again, we need legal routes for application within France/Netherlands/Belgium/Italy etc. where people with genuine need can apply. This then enables us to immediately arrest and remove those who use this route.
Without these legal routes, all people have to use this dangerous method.

Maybe don’t get into a dinghy that isn’t even suited to cross a swimming pool.

These are economic migrants, sorry but that is what they are. A tiny proportion might be genuine but the vast majority aren’t; they want to come here because they know English or have family here or because they know they can move into the black economy with greater ease.
No government has come up with any solution to sort this. Asking the French to cooperate isn’t a fool’s errand – every immigrant that comes here means one less headache for France.

They’re crossing illegally from a safe European country to the UK. It’s the risk they took. And frankly, if your coming to the uk illegally, you should be shipped straight back to where you came from.
Apply for asylum legally and fine. But our economy won’t cope with the number of immigrants currently coming in. We need to vet them like countries like Australia does and send back any that come here illegally.

How about a 3 year moratorium on asylum acceptance- turning them around. It seems the UK needs to figure out how to do this. Maybe you have a quota and announced it’s been filled until further notice and turn them around. If they know it will take a long time but they are allowed to stay during the process – well then they will come and wait. Or re dry the process to online applications with certified docs – turn them around. But the current process is NOT working

Sympathy for these people ran out when our own people stopped being able to have even a basic standard of living.

I’ve given up making any comments on this topic as Labour have made clear anything said they don’t like could wind up with the police at your door. It’s a weird situation I never thought I would be in.
