Submission statement: AI is a dual use technology. It can be used to make beautiful art and it can be used to make child porn.
According to this article, there’s been an outbreak of AI generated child porn, and they usually use open source software, and open source software can’t stop it from being used this way. When people try to use ChatGPT or Claude to make child porn, they’re stopped. When people try to use Meta’s “open source” AI, there’s nothing Meta can do to stop them.
How should we deal with this? Should AI corporations have guardrails in place to prevent grievous misuse of AI? Or should they have no accountability for what their AIs do because *AIs* don’t make child porn, *people* make child porn?

I mean……wouldn’t using ai to create child porn instead of real children reduce child abuse? I feel like it’s only child abuse if a human child is involved in some way.
