Hi all! I’m going to Georgia next week and planning to do some
Hiking in Mestia and stepantsmida, I need your recommendation on the two below shoes!

I never wore shoes higher than my ankle so I’m a bit confused as to what may be more comfortable for me. I know that the added support might be a bonus in the terrain however I’d like to know if it’s possible to do the hike in low shoes? Or are the higher ones more recommended?

For hiking you definitely want to go with shoes that fixate your ankles.
Though it depends of course where you are going – if it’s an easy walk on a unpaved road, you’ll be fine without it.
Consider the weight of the shoes and how comfortable you are with the soles.
If you’re planning to walk longer tracks (6+ hours/day), definitely don’t skimp on the price/quality. You won’t regret it

  2. I’ve done supposedly difficult hikes in those areas in trail running shoes (similar to yours), but more lightweight. To be honest, the trails are not that challenging technically unless you go in winter, you don’t need ankle support unless you have poor technique or are clumsy. If you are comfortable and experienced in those shoes, I would go with them, you don’t need anything more at this time of year.

  3. These should be totally fine for normal hiking. I’m doing the track as well this week and I use similar shoes. Also: these tracks are not really difficult to do, maybe exhausting but the terrain isn’t problematic at all. So I wouldn’t worry too much
    The same goes for Stepantzminda.

I’m just curious on how you’re planning to do both in one holiday

  4. Not relevant to your choice but when I visited Georgia I was able to get decently cheap and comfy shoes in the LC Waikiki in Galleria that served me well as I hiked up Mtatsminda and then all the way across to Turtle Lake.

They only failed me when I ended up stepping on a piece of glass cause some motherfucker happened to smash a glass bottle NEXT to a trashbin, but they’re still wearable despite a small hole in the sole that’s covered pretty well by the shoe’s material.

Nice shoes, what brand are they?

Also, the recommendation is for shoes that support the ankle. But probably not necessary unless it’s really rough or your not very sure-footed.
