There’s literally no place on earth where a laser will work better than a microwave relay. This solves a problem that doesn’t exist.
Free Space Optics have been around for a long….long time. Alexander Graham Bell experimented with it….and data transmission since the 1960s. The practical limitations keep it somewhat specialized.
