Because the crushed velvet, new build, financed 3 series morons are crowd following idiots who don’t know what they’re on about

    2. >Its post on X announcing its partnership with Tesco, Aldi and Morrisons has nearly 6 million views and attracted thousands of comments as of 3 December.

Elmo’s propaganda and misinformation farm at work.

    3. Nothingdoing079 on

Because people believe that know everything about something they have zero clue about and which would have gone through a massive level of risk due diligence and technical approval before it even got to a trial phase

    4. How are people still blaming Bill Gates for everything when Musk is literally operating in the open?

    5. Automatic-Apricot795 on

      > Some UK social media users have been pouring milk down their sinks and toilets in protest

That’ll show them! Spending the same money on the same products but just pouring it away instead of drinking it.

    6. The new feed additive has links to being carcinogenic in humans and needs to handled whilst wearing gloves and a mask…

There’s no evidence suggesting it remains carcinogenic once in the food chain as it’s broken down by the Cow but Social Media seems to have caught on to the idea it is regardless.

    7. because right-wingers are terrified of everything, which causes them to believe every absurd conspiracy theory that crosses their phone screen. so obviously they’re gonna believe that some cow food additive is an attempt to poison them, they already believe that about fluoride and seed oils and soya protein and a dozen other things

    8. Zealousideal_Day5001 on

If you take a calf from its mother so you can take its milk from its mother in a factory farm setting, and then you pour the milk down the drain because you’re opposed to an additive that makes the whole process slightly less climate-destroying, then your moral platform is so wholly different to mine, I don’t think I could recognise it at all.

    9. > Some of those posting online have alleged that Microsoft founder Bill Gates is involved in the development of Bovaer, a claim which the additive’s developer flatly denies.

Fuckin’ Bill, destroying Netscape Navigator not enough for you eh? Now you’re coming after the milk.

    10. Striking_Smile6594 on

Because sadly social media has elevated nonsense conspiracy theories to the mainstream.

    11. BuiltInYorkshire on

There’s a Facebook conspiracy theory page that has blown up over this (I’m on it for the shits and giggles*, some of the stuff is hilarious). There was a video of some “famour” denier asking farmers not to sell their milk to Arla. Except it’s the farmers that are feeding the cows. Duh!

Then Gates, Blackrock (who own them – apparently…**) got thrown into the mix and all hell breaks loose.

      * Think Dom Joly got a lot of his material for his current tour from the same group
      * They don’t

    12. CalicoCatRobot on

It’s ticked a number of boxes to perfectly feed into their conspiracy world view.

It’s being done to try and reduce climate change – hence “woke nonsense”
It involves sciiiieeeeeeeeentists (scary voice) trying to kill or sterilise us all – so a continuation of the “plandemic”
It (doesn’t actually) involves Bill Gates who is the current cause of all the worlds ills (Soros must be having a holiday)
It adds to the raw milk nonsense about the “complicated and scary” process of heating milk being bad for us.

It doesn’t stand up logically, and it never has to – if the right accounts amplify it on their team then they take it as gospel.

    13. manntisstoboggan on

The microplastics in their blood and brains should probably have a little more focus…

    14. They got bored of COVID so have mooved onto something else. It’s just a constant state of being angry about everything they can be tricked into.

    15. Because of the hordes of Facebook/X/etc nutjobs spouting this that and the other about Bovaer being added to directly to all milk, because…
checks notes… Bill Gates wants to sterilize us.

Usually accompanied with and linked to their other ideologies, such as climate change denial, anti-vax, Agenda 2030 control, water fluoride bullshittery.

Edit. Bovaer isn’t added to milk it’s added to cow feed, just to clarify.

    16. Facebook is constantly ramming boaver panic down my neck when I go on it. It’s putting me off using it.

    17. Majority of people miss the part where it took 15 years of R&D to make sure it’s not harmful to humans and animals….

Bear that cost of R&D is £25,000 each time (depending upon which field of development)…..and that comes from investment from public (gov funding), private shareholders and sometimes charity too ….

It’s sad to think that these people back in the day would fall for the You’ve won the South African National Lottery…..

    18. ConnectPreference166 on

People obviously have money to burn. After seeing how much a pint of milk costs, the last place I’d pour it is down the drain or toilet.

    19. because a staggeringly large number of people fell down the conspiracy hole during lockdown and are still stuck down there.

    20. richardgolding27 on

I love reading the comments on here, most people decide if something is good or bad not on basic research but whether they think it’s left or right wing.
I really do wish people would learn to think for themselves and not defend things based on if they think it’s left or right wing.

    21. Appropriate-Dig-7080 on

So wild to me that so many grown adults just casually consume the milk of another specie

    22. It’s so weird to me that being cautious about what you put into your body is now a right wing thing. 15 years ago it would have been the left up in arms about this.

It’s absolutely reasonable for people to be concerned about something new and unnecessary, and make buying choices accordingly.

    23. So basically, Reform twat MP’s are as usual behind any opposition to any approach to change any aspect of our society for the better. And the leagues of lip-dribbling morons trot along behind them spewing out conspiracy theories and baseless claims and unverifiable “facts” and contrarian positions founded by other lip-dribbling morons.

      This is our new reality.

    24. Important_March1933 on

Can we just turn TikTok off please? The damage it’s doing to society and people’s brains is just scary. I was watching the news last night and a young reform supporter was saying how much he admires people like Tommy Robinson from all the videos and reels he watches, people are all being brainwashed.

    25. I’m willing to bet these are the same people protesting the fact that their milk is pasteurised

    26. How dare they do something to actively address one of the largest contributors to climate change! I mean, we could just go vegan instead? No? Okay, then maybe be more open to other options

    27. Easily manipulated, thick as shit, live laugh love types with a social media addiction. They won’t believe a scientist but are “influenced” by someone equally stupid who failed GCSE science on tik tok….

    28. Why aren’t these people drinking organic, raw milk? That will solve their problem and will get rid of the stupid genes from the pool too

    29. I love how depopulation is masterminded by Bill Gates. Bill Gates. The man who has spent billions trying to eradicate malaria which is the biggest killer on earth. That guy.

    30. This stuff is wild on tiktok and twitter at the moment. It’s a whirlwind of madness and many accounts are spreading it, talking about it etc. Bizarre

    31. Sea-Measurement6757 on

Someone tell them you have a higher chance of medical issues from consuming dairy than any vaccine

    32. People on these comments are totally overlooking the UPF free/organic/eating as close to nature lifestyle which is gaining a lot of traction in the last few years, it’s not all conspiracists who are avoiding bovear

    33. Because a random person on the internet told them to. This is how you get Brexit, Trump, anti vaccine, Flat Earth etc etc.

In the words of Gene Wilders character in Blazing Saddles….”you know, morons”

    34. If anyone wants to read the science on this, the relevant articles are:

      [Bovaer effectiveness](https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0022030224008014)

      And

      [Bovaer safety](https://efsa.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/authored-by/Svensson/Kettil)

It seems to be significantly less effective in terms of CH⁴ reduction than the figures given in the media, but also seems ‘safe’ as far as I can ascertain.

A byproduct chemical NOPA definitely IS communicated through the cow’s milk, but at very low levels.

At high levels, NOPA was observed to severely damage testicles and epididimus of male test animals (rats), and one dog involved in the tests inexplicably retained high levels of NOPA causing neurological damage.

Dosages from milk however will be extremely minimal – an order of magnitude below safety suggestions. There is unfortunately no research I can find on effects of regular long-term low level NOPA exposure, but far smarter people than me think it’s unlikely to cause issues.

Also worth nothing that the research was obviously financed by Nestlé who are a main stakeholder in Bovaer.

Overall I personally think it’s fine, but I also think anyone with worries does have some basis for their concerns & shouldn’t just be ridiculed out of hand.

    35. CarcasticSunt9 on

      Oh TikTok bullshit again.

remember, if you think you learnt something on TikTok, you didn’t.

    36. SpottedDicknCustard on

      >Among those raising concerns has been Reform UK MP Rupert Lowe

Of course, Reform twerps stick their oar in to stir the pot.

    37. Cumulus-Crafts on

My parents are these people. They also get really annoyed at people who dare to drink plant based milks, or even semi skimmed milk. They think everything is a conspiracy.

I feel like they’re going to be looking for raw milk next, because that’s the trend in right wing circles in the US right now.
