This is exactly the consequences of living in a strongly stratified society. When the richest and poorest are divided by just one or two orders of magnitude, you don’t need to do this. But when the rich become vastly wealthy at the expense of everyone else, the rich must live behind walls with guards and security. You see it in developing countries. You are seeing it in the US more and more.
It’s one reason why having a 94% marginal tax rate is actually a good idea even for the rich. They are becoming prisoners in gilded cages.
Tech elite know they have been working hard at destroying American society for their gains and expect to ride out of the disaster of their own making in their own personal arks. However much like the Pharoahs of old, you can’t take all those treasures with you.
Good. Let them hide, and cower, in their ivory tower prisons where they belong. The streets, and society at large, belong to us.
