  1. “OpenAI is considering ditching a provision that would shut Microsoft, a major partner and investor, out of its most advanced technology when OpenAI achieves artificial general intelligence (AGI).

Exactly when OpenAI creates AGI, which the startup defines as “highly autonomous systems that outperform humans at most economically valuable work,” is to be determined by OpenAI’s board of directors, under the current provision. Removing the provision would enable Microsoft to continue accessing — and investing in — OpenAI’s tech after AGI is achieved.

The provision was intended to prevent AGI, assuming it arrives in [some form](https://techcrunch.com/2024/10/03/even-the-godmother-of-ai-has-no-idea-what-agi-is/) eventually, from being misused for commercial gain. It’d hand ownership of the tech to OpenAI’s nonprofit board, and it would carve AGI out of all of OpenAI’s licensing agreements.”

  2. Who would have seen this coming. Remember when the “Open” part of OpenAI was about transparency? That didn’t last long. There was no reason to think this would remain a goal for long.

  3. Good thing there work will never result in AGI.  They’re just trying to attract more chumps, I’m sorry, more investors.

  4. Altman puts on a good face but he’s no different than any other CEO. As long as he makes bank what AI does to render people jobless and threaten entire industries isn’t his concern at all.

  6. It’s funny they phrase it this way. In a reality they will do as they please because it benefits them and those around them.
