      You’re going to have to show how ID-ing everyone is going to reduce NHS costs – other than by having unlucky or unfortunate people denied treatment because they can’t produce your ID card at the moment they’re in A&E?

      Tbh -aside from the ridiculously high cost New Labour wanted to charge for these- I never really understood the backlash against ID cards.

      Basically all of Europe uses these to some extent, you can use them as an alternative to passports in a lot of places, they are a quick and easy means of showing eligibility for jobs, benefits, healthcare etc… plus it was the Daily Mail etc who were most against them, which usually means it’s actually a good idea.

      You could make a privacy first ID that would provide all the benifits of a digital ID with minimal downsides, Blair wouldn’t support that implementation br cause the huge amount of privacy violation is his goal.

      So was this a part of the plan all along. For people who are meant to be running the country to ignore the issues right in front of their faces even after riots and protests.

      Problem > reaction > solution.

      They wanted digital ID for long time so they ask how can we get the people to want and give in to it without fighting for their privacy.

      The issues in our world are so transparent and just in plane site avoided by leaders of country’s. This is why Donald trump is able to win by landslide in election. Also why UK is going though PM’s like theirs no tomorrow. We see the corruption and are expected to ignore it. There must be a bigger agenda with the head of the snake hidden away in shadows.

      Follow the money.

      I’ve been in the civil service for 6 years and several roles have focused on reforming and improving public datasets. Without the rollout of some sort of unified ID card (which really should be biometric to prevent fraud), it is simply impossible to truly modernise our public services in a meaningful way.

      As things stand there is no common ID number which links all public data sets together. An example of what this leads to: the MoJ had to [create a ridiculously complicated algorithm](https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/joined-up-data-in-government-the-future-of-data-linking-methods/splink-mojs-open-source-library-for-probabilistic-record-linkage-at-scale) which assesses names, DOBs, home addresses etc to estimate whether entries in different datasets are referring to same person or not), so even the MoJ finds it difficult to verify the identities of _actual convicted criminals_ in its sprawling datasets. Now imagine the chaos in larger departments such as DWP with all the millions of people claiming various financial benefits, I have heard some absolute horror stories….

      This sort of madness (i.e. it’s the 21st century and we get people to “prove” their identity using gas bills or GP letters) is only possible in a system without ID cards, Tony Blair is bang on the money here for once.

      He’ll say that digital ID is the solution to whatever the current hot issues are. He’s been pushing them for decades. No doubt he and his foundation have a lot invested in the companies that would be selected.

      Would the government be happy paying for compensation for those affected?

      Remember, data online isn’t always safe , especially with Russian and Chinese hackers on the rise targeting western countries…..

This is a WEF pusher, that seems to had done things to not only harm high trust civilizations but to at the end enslave them with score systems as also no privacy.

      I agree with the idea of ID cards but know full well that the UK government wouldn’t be able to do it responsibly. With a country that faces as much crime and threats of terrorism as the UK does, inform a foreigner that we don’t use ID cards and they are always shocked.

      Why don’t we have Digital ID cards like most of our European neighbours.. you just have to read many of the insane comments on this thread to see why.

      We already have enough ID systems in place. We are given an NHS number at birth. No NHS number probably means you are here illegally.

      A bit rich coming from him, given his stance on immigration when he was in charge.  He’s been trying to sell us on ID cards for 25 years, but for the chief architect of mass immigration to now use immigration control as a selling point is pretty appalling.
