    1. > A man caught littering when he dropped a cigarette down a drain has said he is ‘fuming’ after being fined £833.

      Don’t litter then, cunt.

I knew he was going to be called Carl before I even opened the article.

There’s something about people called Carl, you can spot them a mile off for some reason. I have no idea what it is.

Bet the journalist had a smile of self-satisfaction when he wrote the word ‘fuming’

He’s upset at easily preventable consequences. Just carry a little tin with you to put them in after you put them out. Empty at a bin. Easy.

    5. >Carl Smith, 31, refused to pay a £100 on-the-spot fine

Well, that’s your mistake right there.

Pay then challenge. Or challenge in a timely manner if that’s an option.

    6. Amazed he was actually caught. I’m against littering, but there’s definitely an element of bad luck he had lol.

    7. >However, when he was challenged, he said that because it wasn’t on the pavement, it didn’t count as littering.

      >The case was taken to court where he eventually pleaded guilty and was handed a fine.

I can’t imagine how it went wrong, seems like he handled the whole thing brilliantly.

      >‘I told him “how are you going to give me a fine if you have no evidence?” I threw the cigarette down a drainpipe, it’s not littering.’

Smart move – no evidence, so now no-one will ever know you threw the cigarette down a drainpipe, just as long as you never ever say you threw the cigarette down a drainpipe.

    8. Not sure why he didn’t just comply with the requests, wait till the enforcement “officer” released his grip then legged it.   His own fault he knew what he was doing was wrong

    9. One of my old apprentices came in fuming one day after he had gotten fined for throwing his cigarette butt on the floor. I asked him where he thought it went and the dumbass thought it was bio degradable.

What a div. You don’t even legally have to give your names to those enforcement officers, as they’re not Police and have no legal power to detain you to establish identity.

Pisses me off so much that so many smokers think they have the right to litter when the flick their butts on to the ground. I remember clearing up butts at my dad’s job when I was younger. First time I did it there was a huge mound of them. Did it again the next week and it was the same. Such a scourge on the environment

    12. Reminded me of a guy I heard talk by who went on at great length about how the courts and
Police were conspiring against him trying to get him banned from driving.

Nope just turns out he speeds everywhere.

    13. What’s the world coming to?

Smokers are used to smoking and putting crap in other peoples lungs and on their pavements and gardens. Now you can’t smoke in workplaces or even just drop your cigarette.

Smokers are bad litterers. Once visited a friend at a local hospital. Among the buildings was a small grassy area with benches for patients to sit out. There was litter bins on the wall nearby but the the floor was littered with thousands of tab ends. I’ve since heard that they closed the bench area.

2 simple answers – 1) don’t smoke, it kills you and others and you stink! 2) don’t litter!
