The headline is a bit clickbait heavy, but to their point, Temu has its place and is doing a good job of out Amazoning Amazon.
I’ve used them a few times, but generally don’t. My experience has been “dirt cheap means dirt cheap,” in that “you get what you pay for” sort of market.
It’s like buying stuff at a budget or discount store. Do they have the cheapest screwdriver? Yes. But I won’t be the least bit surprised if the handle breaks, the plating chips, or the driver bit starts rounding on me.
They also do a lot to corner the Asian and other global markets, given they’re a Chinese based company, which is likely what gives them such an advantage over Amazon.

What are people buying there? I remember wanting to try it out years ago, and they wanted me to install the app to even browse the store. Which seemed stupid, so I never went back. Just tried now and it seems like that’s no longer the case. But I tried searching from a couple things that I might be interested in buying and the results were all just the lowest priced unbranded merchandise that youo can tell is just going to be garbage.

I can’t stand all the pop up’s and roulette wheels on their site and app that keep you from shopping and offer you incentives that never come.

I’ve had great luck and saved hundreds on temu for travel items ( I travel a lot) at steep discounts things like backpacks, carry on bags, luggage, luggage locks/straps, packing cubes. Also things like power converters, phone cases, Apple Watch bands, AirTag holders, phone stands tripods etc and general organization stuff like cable wraps & small clear bags. Most items In These categories are 50-90% less than the same or similar on Amazon. These things nickel and dime you at stores. I recently got a 2 pack of sling bags for $8.75 and individually are no less than $25 on Amazon each. I got a suit bag/duffel for $24 that on Amazon is $90-130. I was shocked at the quality. And bought an extra in case this one gets ruined which happens often with airlines and heavy use.
I have had great luck with travel clothes like sweatpants, golf joggers (my go to plane pants), raincoats, sweaters and beachwear as well. I would say 80% of these type items are well worth it with the occasional 20% just poor quality bad sizing and 20% exceptional quality well beyond my expectations.
Electronics have been hit or miss, most charging cables are crap the mini drones are useless but I got a keyboard for my iPad for $57 that is amazing and comparable to Apples Magic Keyboard that is $300.
They have been great with returns and even giving credits if a product later gets discounted.
Overall my temu experience has been as good as any other online retailer but shipping can sometimes take weeks🤷🏼♂️
Just set your expectations like a $13 drone is probably going to be garbage but if you use it once and have fun it cost $13 in entertainment value.
