      Is this news?

MPs shouldn’t be expected to meet the cost of maintaining 2 residences themselves, council tax is just part of that.

    2. Well obviously. They claim a work expense just like they’re entitled to and like anyone else would.

It is high time that all MPs outside of a certain distance from Parliament were provided a standard apartment whilst being an MP but those apartments to be owned by the country. That way they don’t have to claim anything for a second home ever.

This is where your tax rises go people, for anyone saying they want higher taxes this is where it goes. It aint going to the NHS or anything useful

    5. This lot really are wretched hypocrites. Well now the Grooming Gang Scandal has exploded and internationally with huge powerful people getting involved…..2025 is going to be very interesting indeed politically.

Remember the last time Labour were in power. They rinsed us something terrible with their expenses claims. Why does anyone think it will be any different this time. I mean after all, they not breaking any rules, are they?

I think it’s time we put aside petty political arguments like immigration and the justice system and focus on what is actually causing the major wealth inequality divide and the cost of living crisis. The biggest war of them all, hiding right in plain sight. A class war. A war waged by the elites against the peasants since the dawn of civilization itself.

    8. Time to moor the Bibby Stockholm Barge on the Thames outside Parliament for them to use as their second homes.

    9. I’d like to claim my second home… Oh that’s right, I don’t have one.. and by don’t have one I mean actual home as I rent….

If only there was somewhere all MP’s could stay when in London.. Maybe some kind of building that has lots of rooms in them..

The increase to last year, when Tories were in charge, is 5%. Literally the amount council tax will increase for the population as a whole.

      This is nothing.

Chris Bryant was one of the most prolific thieves during the expenses scandal. Taxpayers paid mortgages for property for him which he sold for hundreds of thousands of profit, no money to be repaid and no capital gains tax due.

The guy should be in prison.

    12. As good as an angry headline this makes, they are supposed to be able to claim expenses for their 2nd homes.

Their 2nd homes are supposed to be a london address for them to stay at while doing work in the various departments and parliament away from their first home in their constituency. Parliament often sits until late at night.

      That was always the idea.

    13. A huge hotel and conference complex should be procured/built near Parliament for MPs and staff. It should be comfortable without being extravagant, clean and modern with top notch security. Think student halls.

Then all second-homes allowance, flats, and accommodation allowances should be permanently revoked.

Oh, what’s that – sounds like a massive security risk having all MPs in one place? What do you think Parliament is?!

    14. Personally think MPs shouldn’t have second homes but be allowed to stay in halls of residence, basically a few buildings dedicated to housing the MPs.

It was Thatcher that brought in the second homes as many poorer MPs couldn’t afford the troops to London, etc, so it was an attempt to make it fairer. She don’t expect it to be abused.

    15. I should really think about becoming an MP. Be inexperienced, fuck over the country and have much of my life paid for by the people. All the while doing very little with the highlight being cheering and yelling in the commons.

    16. It’s about time we just buy a block of flats in central London and put each MP into one of them and when they leave then they don’t get to keep the apartment.

Bills are all paid for by taxpayer but the MP doesn’t get to keep the home after it

I always knew Labour were just as bad as the Tories at not paying their own tax, just like Keir Starmer doesn’t buy his own clothes.

Labour is washed, the Tories failed, Reform are racists… Green is the only way to go now.
