      >Kanda was sentenced at York Crown Court on Friday after pleading guilty in August to three charges relating to fraud, copyright and concealing bank transfers linked to criminal activity.

I bet the fraud and financial crimes are a bigger contributor to this sentence than the copyright violations.

    2. > Sunny Kanda, of Creek View, Wheatley, in Halifax, cheated legitimate providers out of more than £108,000 in an 18-month period between 2020 and 2022, a court heard.

They always assume that every one of these devices was a sale that didn’t happen. Lies.

      > “Illegal streaming isn’t a victimless crime. It weakens the creative industries, puts consumers at risk of data theft and often funds other serious crimes.”

More lies given the folk with the device wouldn’t have paid anyways. The public ain’t as stupid as most judicial staff in courts look.

They really have their priorities straight don’t they? Jailing people for years for watching movies, while giving literal child rapists a slap on the wrist

Everyone knows how bloody dangerous firestick sellers are… So bloody dangerous….they should all be locked up and have the key thrown away. Poor streaming sites can barely afford to continue, netflix on its last legs, prime about to cease trading – these damn firestick sellers have brought them to their knees. Something had to be done and I’m being fucking sarcastic….

The UK justice system reminds me of the one we have in Ireland. It serves to protect corporate and state interests, and doesn’t give a fuck at all about crimes against members of the public.

This country man. There was a news story of a teacher who had literally stockpiled videos of babies being raped and he walked free. But 2 years in prison for illegal firesticks.

If there wasn’t so many streaming services, sky and PPV’s ( which a lot aren’t worth it) then these sticks wouldn’t be as popular. Happy for the masses to get ripped off but not the corporate pay masters

    8. I’m a bit surprised that Sky and the others haven’t gone after Facebook marketplace, there seems to be a lot of ads for these dodgy fire sticks on there . No doubt they like all the scams offering free stuff from xyz company don’t violate their standards.

The UK, where the prisions are too full for nonces and thieves but not full enough for illegal streamers and nasty facebook posters.

Wow, not here in America. If you’re a former Orange president they let you do all kinds of shit without any ramifications.

    11. Wow. People avoid jail for rape and assault, but deprive corporations of money and it’s porridge for you, sonny! Fucking state of us. We’re all fucked.

People seem to forget that there’s a bunch of other shit in these cases, like them generally being linked to gangs, organised crime, money laundering, fraud etc. I don’t really care when sellers get jail time. Sex offenders getting sometimes lenient sentences has literally nothing to do with this dude.

    13. Here’s some stats. Now Tv, the streaming platform owned by sky sells sky sports for a standard price of £34.99/mth.

In Ireland on the same streaming service you get Sky Sports, TNT And Premier sports for €27 (£22.40)

In the UK we are ripped off from all angles, whether it’s pricing like above or the TV licence.

Were treat like mugs, plain and simple.

If the powers that be just put that little more thought into why people turn to iptv in the first place less people might actually do it.

We need fair and consistent pricing in the UK. It’s ridiculous how our closest neighbours get a significantly better deal than us

I’d like to think that the reason that sentences are often similar for firestick pirates and sex offenders is because, too short a sentence for firestick man and literally everyone does it and nobody can really run a business anymore as everything just gets pirated or nicked, and very long sentences for sex offences might incentivise the wrong ‘uns to kill the victims to silence them.

Not saying it’s definitely that, I’d just hope that was the reason.

Imagine if people got out in numbers on the streets to cause revision of our legal system and sentencing, like they do for causes stemming from America or the middle east. We don’t need to put up with this… Of course everyone’s referring to the same thing, this is a ridiculous sentence when compared to how short people are sentenced for violent crimes. It could all be changed so easily if people care enough.

    16. The general trend I’ve noticed is if you commit a “crime against money” you’re going to get a harsher sentence when compared to other crimes. Not sure if the stats actually back that up it’s just my perception of the situation.

    17. I know a lot of people with these illegal firesticks. They pay an annual subscription to keep them working. It just amazes me that they don’t question where that money is going and what it’s being spent on, because it sure won’t be going to the local kitten nursery.

    18. This country is mental, things people actually get away with or a slap on the wrist. This dude gets 2yrs giving people what they want.

    19. He probably wasn’t paying his national insurance, otherwise the government would have happily bought some fire sticks themselves so they can enjoy a bit of Kodi + Seren/FEN Light.

Poor guy stuck with murderer’s rapist and other violent criminals, oh wait some violent criminals just get a slap on the wrist..who gives a crap about selling fire sticks really doesn’t belong in prison
