Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs reports that the body of a missing Russian man was discovered in the Nakra River near Mestia. He had been traveling with his partner when they were allegedly ambushed by two armed individuals. The suspects reportedly shot him, held him against his will, and later dumped his body in the river in an attempt to hide the crime. Both suspects have been detained.
The woman traveling with the victim shared her account, saying the attackers had approached them multiple times before demanding their phones. She heard two gunshots and then lost sight of her partner. Police have charged the suspects with armed robbery, attempted murder under aggravating circumstances, and illegal possession of firearms—offenses that carry sentences of up to 20 years or life in prison. Investigations continue in the village of Nakra.
