      selling £20 billion worth of gilts in the weeks leading up to it….. something the mainstream media have never reported on even when the bank of England admitted it themselves, which they have…

      On what measure did she crash the economy? Not a Truss fan, but I think crashing the economy would normally result in sudden job losses, dramatic fall in output etc.

      Always saw her as the Cheese woman after that one dreadful speech she did like ten years ago. A shoddy state of affairs that lead to her being in control. Almost spat my coffee out laughing when she was ushered in. Doubly so when she left a couple of weeks later. Almost comedic if it wasn’t so depressing.

      The only argument you could make in her favour is that it was not *her* plan to crash the economy, it was the likes of Kwasi Kwarteng and his mates’ plan that they had Truss deliver that crashed the economy. Truss was a political puppet that was used expertly by those who wanted to shape the country for them, but who wanted to do it from the shadows. They backed for Truss for leader because they knew she could be manipulated by them easily by convincing her that their plans were really hers.

      To be honest, I wish the Labour party would stop saying this too.

      Only because it puts all the blame on Truss as if she was some sort of anomaly. The entire Conservative party is to blame for putting her into power and backing her policies. The Tufton Street thinktank dickheads pushed this agenda for years.

      The detonating of the economy and the immediate jump in mortgage rates should be the nail in the coffin for the lie that is Tory fiscal responsibility and should discredit many right wing talking points. Hanging it all on Truss and allowing everyone else involved to wash their hands of it is a huge mistake.

      Saying that Truss crashed the economy … yeah but sunak brought down inflation and borrowing costs … so Starmer is breaking it even more than truss with the highest borrowing costs in 16 years. They’re going to have to come back for taxes. Unfortunately they thought they knew better and wouldn’t listen. Can’t say they weren’t told.

      The claim of her “crashing of the economy” was almost entirely based on gilt yields rising to 5%.

      Do you know what gilt yields are now?

      5.5%.
