    1. Public: Shall we increase tax on the rich people and companies hoarding all the gold like Smaug?

Government: They might send us upset letters and mean social media messages!

      Public: So what’s the plan?

Government: Continue kicking anyone who can’t easily defend themselves! Hi disabled people, it’s still your turn. 👋

    2. I feel like we all need to just learn to be more accepting of each other, this sort of anti-disabled people bs we’re seeing in the comments is exactly the sort of thing most governments relish in because it makes their jobs easier to play us off against each other and pick the side that’s going to give them more votes.

I’d argue most people who aren’t in work due to disabilities aren’t doing that out of *choice*, no one chooses to be disabled or ill? Regardless of what the illness is.

    3. Scotland took over PIP recently & actively market their benefits in a ‘you could be missing out, please apply’ style

Meanwhile they are conducting an independent study on how feasible it is to replace the current system with a minimum income guarantee for those who need it automatically – a legal right free of applications and being deemed ‘worthy’

You are being ran by demons who see all of you as ways to make money or cut costs, do you seriously think that ideology stops at the minorities they mainly target?

This is why you fell for leaving the EU.

People stopped falling for blaming benefit scammers when they saw the Tories openly robbing the country & only bringing that topic up when they were under heat.

It became the Muslims for a while, let’s blame them!

Now it’s back to the disabled & mentally ill again, a quick reshuffle will have you all falling for the same culture war as always!

Austerity, Wars, Capitalism, inequality, toxic food & products all cause… mentally ill & disabled at record numbers

Like DUH??? What do you expect when the world is run this way?

This is before you consider medical advances meaning neurodivergence and mental health is better understood. I have Autism + ADHD & let me tell you even now the system dismisses & misdiagnoses more people that have ADHD than do not. Fucking archaic disgusting system with waiting lists of 5-10 years.

You voted for a prime minister who proudly tweets after meeting Blackrock

Who gets his policies from the WEF & other like minded ghouls like Tony Blair the disabled hating war criminal, who want to use Starmer’s dislike for free speech to introduce digital ID & censorship

Every single time you are led into what these politicians & Billionaires expertly do, blame minorities rather than people responsible for the country being completely dead

    4. Last stats I saw was that about 25pc of the population have a disability, and it’s continuing to grow.

      That doesn’t feel very sustainable.

    5. well, if i had any crumb of hope a single political party would stop treating disabled people like we’re scum of the planet just for existing, it’s been completely shafted.

really cannot catch a fucking break can we. i wouldn’t be as mad if the NHS was built to actually treat us with chronic pain and illnesses, or if employers stopped seeing disabled people as too expensive and too risky to hire because of how vulnerable our health is, and therefore only care about us when they need a DEI percentage checked.

it’s quite literally the world against us. just want to try and survive without being told i deserve no help.

Reminds me of the scarecrow joke kevin bridges did,so you are disabled from the neck down?well we don’t care there is a farmer somewhere who needs a scarecrow.

    7. As a disabled person I learned decades ago that it doesn’t matter who is in power, they will find a way to fuck over disabled people.

Labour or Tories, it doesn’t matter, we have always been an easy target.

We have had decade’s of the Tabloid Media, TV Shows and politicians from both sides pushing this constant narrative that all disabled people are lying lazy bastards who just sit around playing games, watching TV, Drinking, constantly going on holiday’s and having legion of kids and the British Public at large lap it up.

At this rate they should just setup suicide booths like in Futurama..

    8. All they need to do is get rid of capital gains tax and see the flood of high net worth people come in. I spend my days looking at investments and the crazy amounts of money people are holding onto right now is insane. People are not willing to sell assets when they’ll get taxed to the rafters. Going after people on disabilities is hilarious and frankly a bit sick. I’d expect Nigel Farage to do this but labour government is unreal.

    9. Some absolute ghouls in the comments here lapping up a second round of austerity cuts to disabled people who got it in the neck from the Tories the first time. Have to go through ridiculously adjudicated tests to even earn anything or a lengthy appeals process.

There are plenty of better ways to save money or instigate growth in this economy. This is not it. It literally kills or impoverishes the most vulnerable for little gain.

    10. Of course, disabled people aren’t surprised by this after years of attacks on our rights – we knew Labour were going to do this, but lesser of two evils.

    11. thehistorynovice on

There are almost 5 million people in the U.K. claiming some form of disability benefit, up considerably in just the last five to ten years. Are we really going to pretend like this isn’t being abused and that any move to tighten this up is “attacking disabled people”

This sort of shit isn’t aimed at people who are chronically mentally ill or physically dependant. It’s aimed at all the people on the margins claiming it for anything they can dream up for free money. We’ve all met these chancers in real life so why are we now pretend like it’s not clearly a widespread problem needing tackled?

And before anyone else jumps in with “what about issue x, y or z?” That is not a counterargument, we can talk about and try to fix more than one thing at one time ffs.

    12. Yet the govt knows disability benefit recipients are genuinely unable to work

It’s performative cruelty to assauge ‘the market’ ie, billionaires.

Absolutely necessary. It’s not about being mean or Tory. It’s about the ballooning cadre of would-be beneficiaries. Perverse incentive when staying on benefits pays more than work. And people are on pensions for too long.

    14. Can I ask what the Tory policy was? For 14 years they’ve had allt of chances to improve things so exactly what we’re the benefits?

    15. mechacommentmaker on

I wonder how much money the dwp waste when it comes to court appeals where they know they have no chance and just don’t turn up, but put claimants through hell like that to make them want to give up.

As a disabled person, I’m excited to see how they will “help” me back into work. I can barely walk, or use/feel my hands, every joint is damaged from osteo and rheumatoid arthritis, including my jaw which can make talking and eating a challenge. The meds give me fatigue and lower my immune system and I have a bleeding disorder. So apart from being a human statue, I’m not quite sure what the plan is for me. Mallet over the head perhaps?

    17. Labour just used the money saved to buy themselves another decade out of power.
I was a card carrying member but now I’m done. Fuck you Keir. You betrayed us.

    18. TheUltrawideGuy on

That’s a lot of people with back problems having to sign on instead.

For those on reddit who may not understand. This is what you call a joke.

    19. mustwinfullGaming on

People saying “there’s lots of chancers and people that don’t need it”. Have you actually TRIED applying for disability benefits? It’s one of the most inaccessible, stressful, and horrible things to go through. At all stages you’re basically made to feel like a liar and a criminal for the crime of being disabled and how dare you take their money. The assessments reports literally lie and distort the truth and these companies are incentivized to deny as many people as possible. They try and trap people by doing things like ‘your appointment is upstairs but there’s no lift so we’ll see if you can make it up and if you can we’ll deny you’.

There’s a reason that a very large proportion of the DWP’s decisions get overturned on appeal, it’s because they’re full of shit and hope that disabled people don’t have the ability to challenge them (which they often don’t). It’s a horrific system and anyone thinking you can just magically claim X condition and get free money is insane.

The ableism in society is just awful.

    20. if its to cut off from those who walk around with a stick (that they put 0 weight on), or those who manage to get DWP disability benefits from faking disabilities/depression, or getting all their kids diagnosed with adhd regardless if they have it or not. I’m with them.
