      Trump could very easily present as much of an opportunity for us as he does a challenge. The fact that he’s so capricious and unpredictable also means that he doesn’t have any in-built biases and entrenched positions, such as Biden’s well-documented anti-British feelings.

      It means he can be swayed and flattered by his friends just as easily as he can be provoked by his opponents. We just need to position ourselves correctly to choose which one we are.

      Sending a team of Labour party activists to campaign against Trump was probably not a very bright idea, but hindsight is always 20/20.

      You can only play with the hand you’ve been dealt. Like or dislike Brexit it does mean we can seek opportunities that the wider EU cannot. Interesting times ahead.

      It won’t make any difference. If the Trump was going to give us a decent trade deal he would have done it the first time he was in office. The orange one just wants the UK to suck up to him and will give us diddly squat for it.

      All these people – assuming they are people and not Russian bots – in a hurry to suck up to Trump. Trump is not going to give us any trade deal worth having – the price will be opening up UK food markets to US products that are produced more cheaply to worse standards which will have a detrimental effect on the agricultural sector and opening up the NHS to the sort of US healthcare companies that are so popular people are queueing up to shoot their CEOs. A majority of British people have believed Brexit was a mistake since 2017 according to pretty much every poll out there and most people favour closer ties with the EU. If we want to turn the country around, that’s where we need to look economically and democratically.

      You’ve got a majority of the population wanting to rejoin the EU, so instead he goes off to suck up to the orange man baby.

      Seeking closer ties to the EU and China is somehow supposed to make Trump like the UK government?

      I think any deal with the US is going to be bad for us. From chemicals to chlorine in the chicken. And we know US insurance companies want a bigger chunk of the NHS. I hope the PM keeps the NHS out of the grasp of the US

      I’d much rather have a relationship with a trading bloc 21 miles away from our shores than with a convicted rapist and fraudster from a country trying to wholesale export their far-right brand to the UK.

      US power is on the wane, it’s introspection is an indication of it failing to recognise reality.

      Trump is like a bull in a China shop. The best you can hope for is to keep out of sight. If you try to negotiate with him, he is going to do his best to destroy you.

      Ignore as much as you can and look elsewhere.

      Yeah, we could rejoin the EU’s single market and remove trade barriers there, increasing GDP or we could bow and scrape to Trump and First Lady Elmo and get scraps.

      I guess Starmer will make the right decision. He certainly has so…sorry couldn’t that without laughing.

      We shouldn’t really have a relationship with the USA or at the very best, keep it to a minimum. Ideally we should rejoin back to the EU and focus on building infrastructure for a United Europe Army, being much less reliant on America and being a superpower against Russia.

      The USA dictates too much being a cultural and political zeitgeist around the world. It is time that we become much stronger and put down America by a metric fuckton.

      The UK probably has lots of other ex-colonies to trade with, with natural resources, products & services to make mutual trade beneficial. There’s always BRICS if they don’t like their chicken bleached.

      Wtf do we want a trade deal with the US for? It won’t benefit us and their disgusting food and awful cars cannot be sold here and even if they could, no one would buy them.

      Kier I’m begging just don’t, don’t sell out the UK in order to cozy up to a budding dictatorship. We have allies and trading partners right on our doorstep even Donald Tusk has made his position clear, please do the right thing.

      US-UK trade deal would almost definitely include healthcare, it’s the cash cow of the UK.

      They want a bigger slice of that pie, heck they want the lot – crumbs and all.

      Would much rather prioritise renewing our previous partnership with the EU than going begging to an erratic, untrustworthy, isolationist, madman

      Would it not be smarter to try and negotiate a trade deal with the US in 2028 when Trump is gone?
