Yakoob should have been struck off as a solicitor for this.
Instead he went on to get a third of the votes share in the General Election.

Well that’s terrifying, she literally could have been killed for that doctored video.

wow that is so sad for her. we really need ai regulations asap, i dont think the public or low tier police should have access to deepfake ai

I think people underestimate the power of the Muslim / anti Gaza vote. I fully suspect next election we will see some very big names unseated.
There’s a reason why Jess Phillips for example has to be careful re the Muslim community seeing as she was incredibly close to being unseated by a pro Palestine candidate.
Wes Streeting’s majority was slashed, he is at risk.
And for what it’s worth I do think Yakoob could be in Parliament soon. Ladywood is a very Muslim area.

Honestly kinda makes me reconsider doing doorknocking. It wasn’t a particularly fun activity to begin with but I’d never considered the possibility of someone taking footage of you and doctoring it.

I remember at the time the dubiously named “ukfactcheckpolitics” on Instagram circulated this footage around with the intention of banging the drum of dissent.
When I pointed out that they had not verified whether this footage was actually real considering authorities were unsure that it was, they deleted my comment.
About a week after it was confirmed that the footage was probably faked, they deleted the post, damage already done and issued no apology whatsoever for the harm they’d caused.

This is the kind of harm and oppression that women are dealing with but people are in the comments about the women’s march saying it’s nothing but virtue signalling
What else do they expect women to do while politicians and regulations lag behind? Quietly suffer?

Frustrating that they weren’t able to find out who doctored the video.
As an unrelated aside, I wonder how close the homeowners are to Yakoob?

Any links to the video?
AI deepfakes are notoriously crap and therefore easy to spot, and haven’t improved in years. There’s either been some massive advancement in the technology recently or there’s something else going on here.

Yakoob posting this and fully doxing the woman feels like he could be liable for slander. I hope he’s apologies for the harm caused.

Yakoob ought to have been disbarred as a solicitor for this. Instead, he went on to secure a third of the vote in the General Election.

What I don’t understand is why Labour didn’t immediately report this to the Electoral commission and send Yakoob a cease and desist letter.

What’s the point of posting subscription-only articles here if nobody can actually read them?

Pretty sure deepfakes need several high quality source images from multiple angles to actually work. How did they get that much info from a school teacher (I’m assuming she’d likely keep social media to a minimum)? Even deepfakes of well-known celebrities with hundreds of hours of film still look pretty dodgy half the time.
Or do they mean someone just put a fake audio track on top of the original?
strawbebbymilkshake on
It sounds like it was just fake captions placed over muted CCTV footage. Is that a deepfake? Or is that someone taking advantage of how brainlessly reactive and lacking in critical thinking skills the general public is?
Glad she got a settlement and I sincerely hope it was a painfully large chunk of money for him. He needs to see real consequences for his repeatedly bigoted and dishonest behaviour.

Does everyone here pay for every newspaper website there is or is there a secret about these paywalls I’m missing? Every article seems to require payment or a subscription these days.

Seeing this after yesterday reading about the lady who’s husband asked for directions and was harassed then had the video edited to make him look like a racist is kinda worrying tbh. Hope we don’t see more of this

Yakoob is a solicitor and thus neither as educated nor as experienced as a barrister (or registered as one) in criminal law and thus cannot represent clients in higher courts. He’s what a book keeper is to an accountant or a physician associate to a doctor. You use a solicitor for a house purchase, not to defend you in court but his tiny ‘ego’ needs boosting so he’s turned himself into a ‘star lawyer’ (lawyer is a vague term in UK law practices). I wouldn’t use him to draft me a note for school, never mind any legal document.

And this is why people who aren’t involved getting amped up and acting as part of the mob should face prosecution if they are making threats or malicious communications
There is zero chance the house she knocked on were not involved as it’s literally recorded from their phone.
You just don’t need to personally involved, if the drama doesn’t involve you. Just because you think the person is in the wrong, doesn’t justify your behaviour against them.
