      Anglian provide my water.

In the last year they’ve created a new app, and installed smart meters throughout norfolk.

They’re happy to pay software companies and spend to monitor water usage. Gotta scrutinise every little drop we use as efficiently as possible, and force new app installs and whatever that entails on the back end.

But heaven forbid they actually provide responsible utilities to the country. Or upgrade the infrastructure for the sake of our future water security. Fuck that. Gotta make sure they can squeeze every penny out of the ‘customers’ (hostages?). Besides, they’ve got a massive bill to pay for their new app! Who cares if the water is potable or they dump sewerage into the waterways and ocean?

    2. But as long as the executives and shareholders are siphoning off all the money, who cares, right?!

The falsification of pollution tests by Anglian Water is a criminal offense under UK law, who will be arrested?

    4. There should be a ban on bonuses to top management, and zero payout to shareholders until they perform competently.

    5. There seems to be two narratives running on this sub.  One about how we need less red tape and all our companies are drowning in regulations and the other about how none of the companies follow any regulations and just do whatever they want.  I’m not really sure how you squaue that circle.

    6. If you allow water companies to self-report (as the government started to do back in 2009) you free up resources centrally and look like you’ve made savings, but open yourself up to exactly this. It’s a false economy. Even when the government claws back money in the form of huge fines, the damage to local wildlife and swimming spots isn’t necessarily reversible.

If it’s like the rest of the water companies, it’s chronic under paying of staff resulting in hiring unskilled or not hiring employees.

Instrument technician in the oil and gas industry are on £60-80k depending on their experience. The water companies are asking for the same experience and qualifications but only pay on average £28k.

Then expecting these or to take responsibility for safety and environmental tests and safety systems…

But the ceos and management get constant pay rises

soooo a couple of million fine, and bills will go up tens of millions for “infrastructure improvements” while also miraculously giving shareholders a bigger payout to the tune of tens of millions?
