    From the article:

China has achieved a major milestone in the quest for practical commercial fusion power. The Experimental Advanced Superconducting Tokamak (EAST) reactor in Hefei, Anhui Province has set a new record with a 1066-second sustained fusion reaction.

  2. The decimal point isn’t helpful here.. is it just over 1 second or just under 18 minutes?

  3. Between this and today’s AI news, it seems like China is handing us quite the ass-kicking.

  4. Title could do with actually mentioning what the record is for – “*China did 1000 seconds!*” of what? Flower arranging?

In Mark Fisher’s book Capitalist Realism he showed how a multi polar world where the US has to pretend it cares about it’s inhabitants is better for everyone.

When there was competition during the cold War Capitalists had to act and show that America was better to live in the the Soviet Union.

Once the Soviet Union crashed unabashed neoliberal doctrine wreaks havoc everywhere even at home.

I hope we don’t just devolve into belligerent war hawking and instead actually invest in the future of the country. Unfortunately global capitalism means the US doesn’t matter anymore the globalists own everything and can go elsewhere to be safe as it crashes.

  6. I’ve read skepticism about the record from others indicating that time alone is not important, but plasma density and other metrics too…can anyone shed some light on this?

  7. More important than AI, stable nuclear fusion on earth would transform every aspect of society.

  8. Lol, yeah sure lets take their word for it from the nation that has faked and lied about scientific achievements for 50 years plus.
