      I’m halfway sarcastic and halfway serious.  If we actually have an effective plan, I would love to know what it is.  But I’m also pretty skeptical that we have an effective plan at all

      Slam a starship into its side at max speed adjusting the orbit enough to miss earth. We literally just tested this theory a few years ago.

      As a citizen of earth, I propose we take a global vote to take no action at all. I wanna roll the dice on this one.

      Large enough to level an area ranging from anywhere between a small town to a large metropolitan area (range due to uncertainty on its size). Orbital period of about 4 years, we have a bit longer to take measurements to refine the model, and also we can look for it in data from previous pass by’s where it previously wasn’t detected , otherwise we’ll have to wait a few years during the next pass by (where it will miss us). At that time in will potentially be possible to launch a mission to deflect its trajectory if deemed necessary, although we would need to act quickly which the space industry has had trouble doing.

      Would this be a good candidate for trying to capture? I don’t know if we possess the technology but if it’s coming our way seems like a good chance for some fun experiments.

      I read about an asteroid possibly hitting earth in 2032, with the determining factor being it’s position in 2028.

      I wonder if it’s the same one.

      Easiest course of action is no action…..not likely to do anything anyway and presumably has been missing us for billions years or so. But it makes a headline, so yay.

      There ~1600+ meters in a mile…a 100 meter wide rock is a threat but hardly an E.L.E….where it lands (which should be known by now) is the real issue…

      It does raise an interesting question as to what is the threshold at which we say we need to deflect it? 1% chance of impact? More? Less?

      Ive heard that 100m is too small for a telescope to detect. What telescopes do they use to detect these?
