    1. > Former deputy chair of the Conservative Party Jack Lopresti has given his first interview to The Independent after volunteering to serve in the Ukrainian military

      Respect!

I don’t have the balls, the fitness or the commitment to do this. Nothing but respect from me to someone who stands up for what they know is right

    3. I wonder what they’ll get him to do, he’s 55 so even if he has peak fitness I doubt they’d want him on the front line.

I suspect the fact that most ousted Tory MPs have been complaining about not being able to find jobs might have something to do with this…

Cynicism aside though, that’s impressive if he’s actually out serving the frontlines.

    5. As much as I respect the absolute balls of steel on this guy, I’m not so sure it’s a good idea to have quite recent former government official within reach of the Russian army.

    6. While he won’t be on the front line fighting, just going there and doing stuff in the background like procuring weapons is not to be sniffed at. Good on him.

    7. While obviously he’s no longer part of any political party, was technically “unemployed” before this, is just an ordinary citizen, and even when in power he was part of the party who are no longer in government, I have zero doubt Putin will be using this as some PR piece to blame us for “attacking Russia” and crossing yet another imaginary red line.

    8. Imagine my surprise at reading this headline and discovering that it *wasn’t* JRM!!

I bet somebody is loading up his favourite musket as we speak…

Tbh they should be organising all of the Tories past & present into waves – Jacob Rees Mogg blowing a whistle and kicking a football into no man’s land – probably the most selfless and worthwhile few moments of his life for a good cause

I have slightly more respect for warmongers who actually drop everything they have and go to war themselves. So, good for him.

Actually, I think more people would feel enthusiastic about this war if more high-ranking officials and public figures joined in the war effort personally like this guy.

Finally a British person has put their violent nature to good use instead of stabbing some innocent person.
