Maybe one day everyone can have affordable EV at fraction of the cost we have now.

1,000$ EV – cars might be as cheap as laptop one day for everyone

  1. I doubt that the people who buy Alienware top level computer is the same that would buy 1000$ EV

  2. Not the cheapest I’ve seen – but it’s basically a smart (or marque). It’s basically an electric scooter with delusions of grandeur.

Is it allowed on the highway? Yes. Should you drive it on the highway? Hell no.

But it works – it’s very functional, and you can definitely drive it for shopping or to and from the metro station.

  3. How much of the cost is government subsidy?

This post is stupid. A Tesla Model 3 could cost $3.50 if the government covers an unknown amount of the bill.

The day that happens is the day that begins the end of planet Earth as a viable home for humans.

Just the extraction of raw materials would be bad enough, but when you consider that more than 50% of the emissions from a modern car come from somewhere other than the tailpipe (tires, brakes, road surface) ultra cheap cars just lead to air full of plastic and other particles that make their way into our bodies.

  5. I doubt these will ever reach NA shores en mass…and just just because they may engage in unplanned science while in route. Also see: Smart cars run out of NA with sales of only 600 or so the last year offered across all models (2019).

Tarriff? Sure, all you want. Still going to be a no-brainer bargain compared to any domestic EV.

  7. If cars goes down as low as $1000, we’re truly fucked.

We should be using less cars, not more. I’d fully support increased prices of cars, and to use the funding to build public transport and active transport infrastructure in cities.

Government have no business rebating cars, we should be putting hefty luxury tax on them.

  8. Tires will cost at least $400, windows another $$$$, body $$$$, seat, airbags, entertainment system, etc all cost a lot. No shit this is true.

Will the price come down? Yes. But not as this click bait.

Probably in $10k range or a little more. Even with 200% tariffs, it still will be the cheapest in the U.S.

  9. It would really surprise me if they can make a car that cheap that passes all crash tests. Just the airbags alone cost more than that.
