“The only dedicated helpline for male survivors of sexual abuse is facing closure after the government pulled its funding.
Safeline – which helps 2000 men and boys every year in England and Wales navigate the trauma of abuse – says demand for its service is only growing.
They’re asking the government to reconsider.”

Labour has really morphed itself into the new nasty party. More cuts, more crackdown on “benefit scrougers”, more attacks on asylum seekers. It’s sad to see.

I got an ad for them a few weeks ago, I didn’t need call but appreciated that it was there.

Not really surprising. You don’t get taken seriously at all, especially if the perpetrator was female

And men under 50 highest cause of death is suicide. It’s like they don’t care about men’s mental health

It is disgusting- though part of a wider problem where these organisations rely on funding bids that can be withdrawn like this. Clearly, this hits harder as it’s the only one specific to male abuse victims, but it seems like the same tale across the sector is played out almost daily.

I think this article is quite misleading- safeline is a sexual abuse charity open to both males and females
‘We support people regardless of age, gender, race, religion and those with physical and/or mental health needs.’
But does have a male only hotline….so this charity might lose its funding and with it will go the male helpline (along with its other services).
This clearly makes it sound like it’s a male only charity and it’s getting shut down.

Tell me again about this “male privilege” I keep hearing so much about

As a male survivor of abuse this doesn’t surprise me even slightly. My mum and I escaped an abusive situation while I was about 18, and the difference in resources and support available for her compared to me was shocking. She had half a dozen charities to get in touch with, got free therapy and help getting her life back together, all within a month or two.
The supposedly non-gendered charity that gave her so much therapy and support didn’t even ring me back. I got no support whatsoever other than CBT on the NHS. Nobody was interested in supporting me. I can’t say for sure it’s because I’m a man, but given the context, it was either sexism or ageism that caused the difference and I’m very doubtful it was because of my age.

Just in case you wanted to something more then bash Labour…
So the people who need it will likely slip in and out of the regular healthcare system, will be less likely to live productive lives and ultimately end up costing more than the meagre savings to the public purse.
