    1. > ‘Parents hide children when they see my XL bully’

Probably because of all the kids they kill.

    2. “Parents are worried that a dog breed known for killing children may kill their children”.

It’s no different to a parent holding their child back when waiting to cross the road. Cars also kill children, so parents are wary of them being near their children.

    3. ZealousidealAd4383 on

Yeah. Cos yours might be a lovely animal and well-trained. But there’s a hell of a lot of dickheads who own those dogs that have raised them as neglectfully as they’ve raised their kids, and both are now entirely feral and in need of intense therapy and retraining to become socially functional again.

    4. He literally has a muzzle on his dog and wonders why other people are uncomfortable around it.

    5. No shit Sherlock, he even says himself in the article that the dog was raised as a fighting dog.

    6. Well, it’s got a large brightly coloured muzzle, a leash you’ve had to wrap around your wrist, and they’d hear you say “No **Bear**, no. Stop looking at that small child like it’s a sunday roast”. Never mind the kids, *I’d* hide behind something.

Ffs, responsible parents protect their children from my floppy-eared springer spaniel pup because they don’t know the bloody dog and they’re looking after their kids.

Then she lies on her back and sometimes she gets pets on her tummy.

The fact that you have an animal bred for attack who is mainly kind to you should in no way mitigate people’s fear of an animal bred for fighting.

    8. I had a to do with someone because I had picked up my (extremely nervous) dog near their big dog. I explained it was no reflection on their dog, mine was just a massive wuss but the owner still took mortal offence.

    9. Only met one real XL on my dog walks, it was off lead (before the ban) and it’s owner was shouting in the distance trying to recall it… even I as a 17st bloke wanted to hide from it! It casually bumped into me to steal my dogs ball and it was like being hit by a horse, I was with a girl at the time and she naturally stood back way out of the way like holy shit wtf is that.

Honestly, a beautiful & impressive animal but majority of owners are a certain unfit stereotype

Too many horror stories about this breed. Pictures don’t do it justice, they are scary looking irl. Should be banned outright.

You can tell by the comment how clever he is. And it’s always the mouth breathers that own this type of dog. Strange that.

I was walking my two dogs and walking while my five year old and seven year old were on scooters on the path with me. A guy with two of a bully breed of dogs straining at their leads was walking up the middle of the road (random) and I made the mental calculation so cross the road that had driveways with gates and garden walls from the side we were on that was just a long high hedge. I did this so I could literally throw my kids over the wall if I needed to.

      > Owners have to keep their dogs on leads and muzzled in public and it became illegal to breed, sell or abandon them.

Something tells me the kind of people, breeding, selling and abandoning them probably aren’t the people that see these laws and go, ahhh fair cop.

    14. SpasmodicSpasmoid on

Yeah they’re called good parents. I’d hide myself if I saw one and I’m 6ft5 250lbs

    15. Character_Mention327 on

      You don’t say?

I’m not trusting a bred-to-be-vicious death machine near my kids. Fuck that.

    16. Educational_Yam_1416 on

I had a proud XL bully owner start shouting at me because I crossed the road with my one year old when I saw him and his dog coming towards us on the same side of the street. As he turned to shout at me the dog continued pulling him forward. Terrifying that I obviously had more control over the circumstances of the situation than he did.

    17. occasionalrant414 on

Really? The reason for this is that these dogs look at kids like they are a lunchbox with the lid partly off. Literally a todler is a walking, plump snack box to these dogs.

I’m sure you believe he is harmless, and will keep thinking so right up to the moment he snaps and starts mauling the nearest todler.

    18. People don’t know your dog, and if your dog is statistically more likely to be aggressive than others then you have to expect people to react accordingly.

I used to have a greyhound. People with small dogs would often pick their dog up or cross the road when they saw us coming. My dog actually didn’t have a strong prey drive at all and was very gentle with small dogs and cats, but strangers had no way to know that and quite understandably didn’t want to play those odds. You can’t get offended by this kinda stuff, it goes with the territory of owning certain breeds.

    19. I have the same problem. Poor fleshripper has the soul of an artist, but after a few unfortunate and unavoidable savagings that totally weren’t his fault, nobody will give him the time of day. Poor sweet nanny dog.

    20. “He said with glee in his eyes”.

Honestly why are we bothering kennelling these dogs it should be shoot on site.

    21. It’s a dog breed bred for the sole purpose of fucking shit up

I know it’s not the dog’s fault either, but all it takes is that dog to see me as food and I know that even being a fully grown adult, and armed with whatever I could find, I would struggle to fight it off, let alone it completely rip a child to shreds

    22. risinghysteria on

Hundreds of amazing breeds and people continue to pick these hideously ugly fighting dogs. Dead behind the eyes, creepy things.

    23. Why haven’t we just put an outright ban on them yet? There are plenty of other dog breeds that people can get.

    24. no shit. as the parent im always conscious that this could be the one i have to execute to save my kids.

    25. I feel this guy’s pain!
When people cross the street to avoid walking near me it really hurts my feelings!

Just can’t walk down the street brandishing a machete these days without someone having a problem with it.

      /S

Pretty fair thing to do. I walk a large husky / akita and even if parents didn’t move out the way I would.

Large dogs and kids they do not know shouldn’t mix – it can be very dangerous.

    27. Yeah, fucking right mate. Your dog shouldn’t exist, and you shouldn’t be allowed to keep it. Horrendous creatures, I’d like to see them all gone, and I’d like to see far more severe treatment of those who keep dangerous animals.

I’ll keep saying it, but if your dog kills somebody, or maims them, that should be legally equivalent to you having personally taken those actions.

These dogs scare me. I’m a pretty big guy, but I’d have no shot. Best I could hope to do would be to find something to climb, or hope I have something I can shove deep into its eye sockets. Yes I have had to think about this, no I shouldn’t have to.

    28. >The breed is illegal to rehome, which Mrs Gaines said had left the charity “in a situation where the only option is to put the dog to sleep”.

This is a positive and should not be seen otherwise. We want rid of these dogs, and putting them down is perfectly humane.

    29. DistastefulSideboob_ on

Don’t worry, any breed can bite, it’s about how they’re raised.

      >He was told Bear had been discovered being forced to fight in Wolverhampton, where his ears were illegally cropped with kitchen scissors.

      Ah.

In all serious, these dogs are known for snapping on owners they’ve had for years, who’ve raised and pampered them since they were puppies. Not only is this breed inherently dangerous due to it’s size, power and genetic temperament, this dog was literally *trained to fight.*

I can’t imagine the sort of people who would want to own a dog like this, presumably the same sort of people who write letters to serial killers in prison. At least this man muzzles the dog and complies with the ban conditions in public.

Still wouldn’t be surprised if the next article we read about him is the report of his tragic death, after being mauled and dismembered by his beloved “pet.”

    30. The dog had been rescued from fighting.

Literally already knows violence in a breed bred to be violent.

No shit I’d be hiding my kids. I’m sorry but the dog needs destroyed.
