One of its founders, Jean Monet iirc, was keen on building barriers to prevent African farms under cutting French farmers. Some economists have pointed the finger of blame at this for the state of poverty in Africa by not being able to trade easily with close neighbours.

I’m just about old enough to remember the time when local politicians would mostly concentrate on local issues and not desperately pull themselves onto the world stage with their fingernails.

London’s Khan, sounds like he’s going to sweep across Europe on horseback

People keep saying ‘closer EU ties’ like it’s automatically a good thing. The UK is actually less exposed to trade wars than the EU—why voluntarily sign up for more risk?

Who cares what the complete failure of a Mayor thinks. We left suck it up and we aren’t going back either. Trump has made that impossible now and the failed EU leaders are facing serious political turmoil as voters turn away from their neo Marxism ideology.
Look at that pathetic German EU guy yesterday….bursting into tears because JD Vance told them the cold hard truth…..no tears for the women and toddler or teenage boy though, who were killed by their open border policy allowing terrorists to operate at large.
I hope they are all turfed out by their ears over the next few years.

The disrespect in the headline is surreal.
“London’s Khan”….Sadiq Khan is the elected Mayor of London.
They shouldn’t be ignoring his title. I can’t imagine this would have happened with Johnson.
No thanks mate, focus on, building social housing, your knife crime problem and stop taxing us to death with your stupid environmental taxes
London voted remain in 2016

It should not be a surprise that the mayor of London wants to keep as strong links with the EU as possible.
Surprised that people think of the [EU as a tariff free trading nation](https://taxation-customs.ec.europa.eu/customs-4/calculation-customs-duties/customs-tariff/eu-customs-tariff-taric_en).
