  1. So if Tesla stopped making chargers – they would still have the crown for ~10years or more. So BS title. The company is not stupid and with 8/8 coming out…

What the speculation should be is – what is a crazy company like Tesla doing that required they get rid of a department we thought was needed??? What do they know we do not?

Tesla does not have real estate like Shell does or Circle K, or Seven Eleven, or Target or Walmart or Mac Donalds… Tesla would need to negotiate a lot of leases – how long do those take? what’s the return on investment when all you’re selling is kwh’s?

companies like ABB and Seimens make all the electrical infrastructure – power plants to kitchen outlets.. including underground utility hardware. they can offer 100% in house equipment from the street to the charging port at *immense* scale.

Pretty sure this guy is actively trying to fuck over the future.

  4. If he manages to run the company into the ground, (cheap) beer for 3 randomly selected people on this sub is on me.

  5. Hope these people get the opportunity to work elsewhere where they can continue evolving the technology and make it more open and easier to adopt by others.

China/BYD wins the world outside tgeUS and GM somehow wins enough marketshare to live another decade. Musk will be remembered as the most foolish person who ever lived.

  7. I think he’s going to fire everyone else, focus on building Matchbox™ replicas of Teslas, and keep pushing for his $56bn bonus because he’s done such a fine job.

  8. RandomlyMethodical on

    > Musk’s Supercharger network was long considered an unbeatable asset that would insulate Tesla from competitive pressures. Particularly in EV laggard North America, no other brand had access to such an extensive and, importantly, reliable network of fast chargers.

It’s almost like he’s trying to kill the company at this point.

  9. Good. Maybe I can stop seeing his dumb ass on reddit every damn day then.

I don’t think EVs will stop if teslas die. If anything we will see better ones from other companies that like choose to make actual vehicles that look like something people would want. As a person in the market for a truck I would choose a rivian over a cyber truck and honestly maybe he would’ve raised more eye brows had he attempted to design a normal EV truck

This is what’s so baffling about all of this. Tesla is going to have its lunch eaten by mainstream vehicle manufacturers in the not too distant future. It was specualted over the last couple years that Tesla would wind down production of its vehicles and focus more on tech, since Elon himself says that Tesla is not a car company. Investors and speculators guessed that Tesla would focus on their charging stations and create a monopoly (ala Apple) across the country with their charging infrastructure and continue into the future with their revenue coming from these avenues.

Now that Elon has done this…. what exactly is the future of Tesla? They are going to be soundly beaten by Ford and VW in the EV space in no time, and now they’ve self sabotaged their own future. If you don’t have puts on Tesla by this point I’m not sure what other advise could be given.

Mercedes is building a network for all EVs and so is Rivian. Grant it, there will be challenges, but know others are working on it gives me hope. I was considering an EV as my next vehicle this year, but now I’m going to wait a bit longer.

Tesla’s former head sold ALL of his stock for a reason. They’ve fallen behind and Musk has lost the plot.

  14. Electric cars are too important to fail. Nationalize Tesla before it gets worse. CEO’s choosing greed over people shouldn’t be in charge.

  15. poseidon2466 on

He’s done this with solar city. Lower the value to the ground, buy up everyone’s stocks, and merge it with another company he owns.

  16. Nah.

Money from the Infrastructure Bill is starting to roll out. Why spend money building a supercharger network when the government will do it for you for free?

  17. returnSuccess on

Elon sure fried his chance of winning subsidies from India, by going hat in hand to the Chinese for help on autopilot instead of honoring his preexisting visit date. He’s bet the farm on technology estimated by experts to be ready in a decade

  18. The EV industry should not fear. Tesla did prove that electric vehicles are feasible and desirable, but the real auto makers are now making better and more desirable cars.

What’s the worst that could happen? The Chinese suppliers that ship parts to Tesla for assembly into Model 3s now ship to other brands?

To think that I once was a Elon fanboy. Lesson learned I guess.

They will still have the crown because of how trash the CCS network currently is.

  21. Makes no sense. A smart CEO would spin off the business and capture some value from it.
