I’m surprised considering they “accidentally” fired nuclear weapons experts from the DOE and scientists researching the bird flu at USDA.

  2. So tomorrow the narrative will be Trump/Doge saving those jobs by reducing government waste

  3. The dumbest administration continues. In four years, America will be in absolute shambles if we don’t have to endure even longer than that.

  4. Musk probably needed those folks on the payroll to somehow make sure money kept flowing to SpaceX.

I am a NASA engineer and probationary employee. I’m having a celebratory beer tonight, but not holding my breath and I’m pouring one out for all the civil servants who were not so fortunate. I hope this can hold and I can continue to serve our country and all of mankind.

  6. After “accidentally” firing Department of Energy nuclear workers and USDA bird flu specialists, maybe this someone in the administration is actually starting to reign in DOGE.

And once again, the new administration realized its steps were wrong and has to go back. I guess this is what happens when you hire a bunch of racist 20 something year olds to make the government more efficient.

Unlike workers at many other federal agencies this week, probationary employees at NASA were not terminated on Tuesday.

    >The reprieve in these terminations does not necessarily signal that NASA will escape significant budget or employment cuts in the coming months.

    >The administration could still seek to terminate probationary employees.

    Let us see what happens.

Funny. If it comes out of their mouth, it never changes. The reality in their head is set in stone. But when they try to bend reality to it, they end up looking weak because they “change their mind”. Weak. Weak. Weak. They must be getting tired of losing.

  10. Isn’t it a bit weird that the guy who directly competes with NASA for space contracts has been given the power to gut them?

Because asteroids are bad…mkay? And we need qualified scientists to let us know when we should assume the position and kiss our asses goodbye.

  12. Good thing *the administration* is thinking these massive things through before announcing them!

Space exploration is a big *thing* for Republicans/Conservatives, as weird as it sounds.

We love it for the sheer experience of discovery, exploration, and curiosity for the universe we live in… they see it as the Romans saw the rest of Europe: a new realm to expand influence into and conquer.

It’s kinda been something I think most of us just keep silent about, because at the very minimum, their embrace of space exploration is highly beneficial for us to conduct science and make new discoveries. Just let them plant their American flag and smile and nod. 😁

  14. How much do you want to bet SpaceX contracts had more to do with this than all the other reasons?

Where has the world seen this before? This incompetence in staffing decisions? Oh right, in Trump’s first term.

Record turnover of Trump staff. I’m actually surprised now that they are somehow having epiphanies at the last minute. Either that, or all of this has always been for show and they are all gaming the stocks or something to profit from all the chaos this creates and then settles.

  16. As someone who has worked as an engineer for years on space programs, if there’s one thing that really IMPROVES schedule and cost, it’s layoffs and uncertainty. /s

  17. Get your shit together America! Nasa is probably the ONE thing we’re _all_ very proud of you for making

    Please don’t fuck it up

  18. So, if they were going to go back on it, why were they committed to doing it in the first place? Shouldn’t the government be significantly thinking things through before firing thousands?

Of course, I know the answer. If you are still blindly following Trump, you should probably consider those questions a little.
