Yawn. I’m in the position where I was born in Britain but grew up.in Spain most my life and I can tell you that there are swathes of communities especially in the poor rural areas that make a living 6 months out of the year off the tourist season because the local economy is in ruins. Yes, over-tourism is a problem, but the issues with high cost of living and rent isn’t because of the tourists, it’s because the state and the corporations are bleeding the nation dry. Getting everyone riled up at tourists is just another way for people to not pay attention to the real issues
I know a couple that moved to the south, set up their own British real estate agency so they could sell properties from British people to other British people, their parents moved out there too and opened up a restaurant and hired British family members to work there, had British bingo and British dishes. Nobody spoke Spanish above a A1 level. They’re the same people that complain about integration in the UK but just want a mini England in a Spanish community. Big loss of jobs for Spanish people just because of one family and their mentality.
