The dissinformation machine is working overtime. Think some calls have been made recently after Europe has started getting serious on defense.

    2. When the people who say negative stuff about Putin tend to disappear or die in “accidents” this could actually be in some ways true

    3. There is literally nobody in prison in the UK for criticising the government. There are people in prison for inciting and helping to plan riots, and they deserve to be there.

Weird how much Trump and people in his orbit always seem to criticise USA’s western allies but never have a bad word to say about Russia.

      Such a coincidence

No-one is jailed “for free speech”. They’ll jailed because of the consequences of what they’ve said. The BBC should be correcting this clown but then they’ll be accused of being “biased”, I’m sure.

    6. I don’t know why we’re even wasting time with these people. All we’re going to get is culture war bullshit and them trying to export their bigoted politics to the UK. Interviewing an ex-Trump official on the BBC is an absurd waste of the licence fee.

    7. god, there is a lot of pro russian bullshit on reddit at the moment. It really is going to be europe against russia and its neo-nazi ally the USA

This has nothing to do with free speech. They know it’s nonsense but they also know that people who support organisations like the AfD and individuals like Tommy Robinson will believe it. America is well into a coup and they would be very pleased if Europe went the same way.

I watched this when it happened on TV last night, absolutely insane interview. Utterly insane.

    10. The irony is that the people jailed in the UK for “free speech” are in reality jailed for things that even the First Amendment in the US has as exceptions,

      * **Incitement**: Speech that encourages people to break the law, including violence
      * **True threats**: Statements that indicate a serious intent to commit violence
      * **Defamation**: Speech that harms someone’s reputation
      * **Obscenity**: Speech that is considered offensive
      * **Child pornography**: Speech that depicts children in an offensive way
      * **Fighting words**: Speech that is considered to be particularly offensive
      * **Fraud**: Speech that is used to commit a crime
      * **Intellectual property violations**: Speech that violates someone else’s intellectual property rights

    11. They know it’s nonsense, it’s just part of Bannons technique to flood the zone with bullshit. There is just a constand flow of crap that people become numb to it and disheartened.

      I’d just stop interviewing them.

    12. So hard to tell if these people have been radicalised and actually believe this guff or are just grifting

    13. rocketfromthepast on

I don’t see why anyone would been surprised by this, given that Trump officially surrendered to Putin last week.

    14. Much_Educator8883 on

Is there any point preteding that the US has not turned into an ally of Putin, and a hostile state to the UK and Europe?

    15. Thin-Giraffe-1941 on

that’s because in Russia they keep falling out of hotel windows. It really cuts down on the use of prison space.

    16. I really wish someone would start out right shutting down and calling out the republicans and general American idiots out on their lies and hold them to account. Including our press

    17. Well in America they don’t even lock up their pedophiles anymore, they let them riot in the capitol and then release them with a full pardon.

Such horseshit from the right in the U.S.

Astroturfing with BS in the hope that some of it sticks and distracts people in the process is pretty much their general MO. Overall, I think the UK is much more cynical about these people but for sure there’s still a proportion of the population who will listen to them.

On the other side of the Atlantic, however, I wonder how long it will be before opponents of Elon and the Felon begin magically falling out of windows in the way that inexplicably happens in Mother Russia…?

    19. I’m getting real sick of Americans making snidey comments about our country. Almost like they’re not our allies or something.

    20. This is a person associated with the Trump adminstration who just blocked Associated Press because they wouldn’t automatically start referring to the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America. Free speech is obviously a really important point to the Trump team right now, sure.

    21. Ex- Trump ambassador living in a disinformation bubble doesn’t know anything about the UK.
Here, I have fixed the title for you.

    22. Reporters without borders press freedom index 2024

      United kingdom ranked 22

      United states ranked  55

United states has less free speech than the uk mainly due to trump supporters threatening anyone who criticises their god.
