  1. Probably should’ve made it so 2021 was first then 2025 to be in line with your title. But yeah its a pretty crazy flip to see happen. I don’t live in Germany, but lurking a bit on their discussion boards. It seemed like it mainly went this way due to immigration, economy issues, and a housing crisis. And with AFD getting pushed hard by musk/RU-bots farms. Very similar story to the US and to be honest, it sounds like it may be a similar story in many western countries.

  2. So did BSW make the 5 percent or not? I’ve seen lots of different data

Looks like it’s going to be by a hair either way

1980s: STASI drive crazy German civilians and spread all kinds of conspiracy theories.

2025: Everyone or pretend that there are no differences between Eastern and Western Germans, or their reasons are purely economic.

  4. Interesting that Afd is powerful in former DDR. Musk poured plenty into AfD. Expect him to keep it up and hit harder next time. Not that he cares about afd in particular. He is only funding the most far right parties in multiple NATO countries as part of Trump’s attempts to alienate and undermine NATO as he wants out to be free to invade Canada for some insane reason or other. As he himself says. I hate interesting times.

  5. West Germans were taught the evil of the 3rd Reich, East Germans were never taught being remorseful for the sins of Adolf Hitler.

  6. Interesting snapshot which probabilistically reconfirms that dramatic surface change in sociopolitical systems does not erase their long term effects (or, more succinctly, ‘cultures endure’). One wonders what more a time series animation/ slider capturing fluctuations in underlying political sympathies since at least WWII might reveal.

people who dismiss this election results as dumb germans being nazi miss the point in my opinion.

this wasn’t like this in prior elections therefore something happened between 2021 and 2025 that made people vote for afd.

i know its easier to blame elon or russia but i don’t buy it, germans lost faith with the current government and if you keep ignoring it, afd will have even more votes in the next elections
