If the Liberals end up winning, this will have to be one of the most insane turn arounds ever in Canadian politics.

  2. Thank god. The last thing we need is PP the Trump wannabe. He’d sell us to the states faster than you can boil maple syrup.

Looks like aping the orange dump is a bad strategy anywhere but Murrica and other autocratic shitholes.

Holy crap! That is drastic! The U.S. insanity is a giant bucket of cold water for conservatives.

I’m not surprised. The conservatives parroted Trump’s talking points and associated with Trump right up to the point where Trump turned on Canada.

  6. Good. Carney is the only candidate IMO that can, or wants to stand up to Trump. I’ll be voting for him. What an incredible swing in such a short period of time.

  7. It’s fucking crazy how fast Canadian’s opinions have changed since the start of the year. If an election was called the fall 2024, which is when the Conservative Party of Canada wanted one, they likely would have won a majority government a majority of the popular vote. Christ, the Bloc Quebecois, a Quebec separatist party that only run candidates in one province, would have very likely have been the official opposition.

Now. the combination of Trudeau resigning (His handling of domestic issues has been awful) and Trump’s threat of annexation has completely turned the next election upside down. The CPC has no idea how to respond to Trump’s threats as a large percentage of their base is Made in Canada MAGA. The leader of the CPC is, as my grandmother would say, a complete asshole and generally not that liked outside of Alberta and Saskatchewan. Canadian pride is rising in Quebec of all places over the last months and the Bloc is losing a lot of support to that. The NDP support is completely collapsing across the country (their leader is also not very well liked). Basically, there is renewed excitement in the Liberal party as the party that best represents Canada in the face of American economic aggression.

It’s hard to say how the next election will play out as it will likely be in the late spring/early summer and no one knows if the Liberals will be able to maintain this momentum. Keep in mind the next Liberal leader hasn’t been elected yet (this will happen in early March). In my opinion, the Liberal resurgence has been helped by everyone coming up with their own version of what the next PM (Liberal leader) will be and how they will tackle the Trump problem. In true, we really won’t know until they are elected and in the role for a few weeks. Also, Liberal support is highly concentrated to eastern Canada. They could, in theory, win a minority government without obtaining any seats west of Ontario.

  8. Not a big fan of overreacting to polls, the LPC and Carney don’t seem to have anywhere near the momentum Harris had in August/Sept and we all know how that turned out

  9. You know those scared straight programs where they take troubled youths to tour a prison and meet the inmates? I bet it’s like that, watching your neighbor fall into fringe right oligarchy batshit insanity and deciding that you can make a different choice. Just like those kids can feel that extra motivation to stay out of prison after seeing what it’s like for the people who live there.

  10. Canada having to even think about their border security for the first time in decades if not centuries… that will do it.
