All of a sudden china aren’t looking like the bad guys……

I mean, regardless of US pressure, this is probably still something we should all be pushing to reject anyways, no?

At this point I’m for anything the Americans are against …. Like vaccines say, or Ukraine.

The us embassy is the one looking dangerous now it’s 3 times larger than the one china wants to build

US mega embassy on one side of town and China mega embassy on the other side of town. This is what brexiteers voted for

Many years ago in a past life I knew someone who told me that at the embassy square in London all the buildings there have bomb-proof / shatter-proof Windows, but, only the sides facing the American embassy.
I have thought on this often.

What are the US going to give us in return for rejecting this Chinese embassy? We need to adopt the Trumpian ethos of knowing the cost of everything but the value of nothing.

A super big embassy so they can accommodate more spies.

Yeah, Trump doesn’t want any competition on kissing China’s ass.

Starmer should explore the option of joining the closest trading bloc, which happens to be our closest, largest and most culturally aligned.
Oh wait…….

I mean, this is all good work by Russia really. Get the UK to vote to leave the EU and making them weaker, then manoeuvring the US to become matey with them and acting like twats.
We are now very small and very inconsequential on the world stage.

Say what you want about some of their domestic policies, China is a stable country. You can’t fault them on that.
My other half is from there, and honestly, most people don’t care about democracy or the government – they care about the trains running on time, having food in their stomachs, clean drinking water, a stable supply of electricity, a job that pays them enough to do what they want to do… stuff the average person cares about.

A broken clock is still correct twice a day – and I’ve to say it’s correct to reject the plan regardless what Trump says.
It never ceases to surprise me how anyone here in UK will support a bigger Chinese embassy when there was a demonstrator literally dragged into the Chinese embassy years ago. It could have been another murder similar to Saudi if the Met didn’t act quick enough at that time to pull that demonstrator out.

The US has an enormous embassy in London but hypocrisy is nothing new
I think the UK should allow China to do this if China is willing to let the UK build a similarly large embassy in Beijing

Keir Starmer should stop listening to anything the US has to say, instead he should do what is best for everyone and just give the land to China and then we pay for the super embassy for an eye watering amount, it’s clearly the right and only option to be made.
Virtual-Feedback-638 on
If that is accomplished then the UK needs a new PM!

I’ve wondered this, but with the war in Eastern Europe and the U.S. being increasingly unreliable, is being more friendly with China really the end of the world?

If people really believed the whole “spy” narrative wouldn’t it be better they were all in one building where we can monitor them easier?
Instead all those alleged spies are just operating out of other buildings anyway

Yea I’m not a fan either. China has done some extremely sketchy things in other countries, completely ignoring the laws of the land

Why does China need such a giant embassy? Reject it on that basis.

He should be under pressure not to let them build a super embassy in London from freaking COMMON sense.
Xi (Chinas leader) is A DICTATOR. And a brutal one at that.
Look at who is out protesting this. Hong kongers. These people might actually know a thing or 2 about the CCP (Chinese government).
So consider their expertise before you think its somehow racist to oppose the CCP or that China is possibly preferable to the USA and could be a better ally.. couldn’t be further from the truth.
